        Definitely the best worst story.

Sucks about dropping 100 on a pull, but crabs, beer, and fun. Plus an eta towing a boat, win.
        Different strokes for different folks.

              Where was your tow hook?
thats what i was wondering. never had to get a tow before and when i crawled under her there is no hook, thought all e30's had them. the owners manual has a pic of the car with two hooks in the front but mine is an es and the pic had no air dam. so do i need to buy a hook and where do you instal it?

The older metal-bumpered E30 has two tow loops right under the bumper.
Here's a shot of my old 86 Eta (after I hit a rock with it). The tow loop is between the turn signal and the foglight, right where the red wire is running to the foglight. There's one on each side, right & left.

On your car those hooks seem to be hidden behind that fancy front fascia/airdam.

There are two tie-down brackets that can be used in a pinch instead. Look under the car on the frame rails just aft of the front wheels. I'm curious to know what the tow truck driver hooked that chain to?

On the newer style plastic-bumpered cars, there is a threaded socket hidden behind a little square plug in the bumper. A towing eye screws into that. You can see it (the harpoon) screwed in next to the passenger-side turn signal on my 1990 325is in this shot.

he hooked up to the frame rails i believe. there is a hole on each side of the rails.
