Please Support My Small Business in a Grant Fund - by Clicking "Vote"

    Cliff Notes:
I need your vote for my company – RovAir. Please visit: www.Missionsmallbusiness.com

Log In & Support, Find RovAir, and Support.

I need 250 votes before my entry is even considered so the more the merrier.

    Hey Guys,

I’m calling out a favor to the R3V community to help support my start-up company in a grant funding opportunity presented by LivingSocial and Chase Bank. The only hesitation point I can see is, you have to log in via facebook, other than that it is pretty straight forward.

    About RovAir:
RovAir shares a single mobile broadband line among multiple users, and provides connectivity for any length of time without the concern of data transfer limits. RovAir activates and de-activates mobile broadband equipment on-demand on an “as-needed” basis. For example, ten persons wish to access the internet for 3 days during the month. If these days do not overlap, RovAir can deliver these three days of access to all ten persons using a single contracted line. Now imagine breaking this down by the hour. Our model is simple, and revolutionary. RovAir solves major problems for both carrier and end-user.

    Application to the BMW Community:
I started talking to Club racers who data log and tune on the spot during race weekend. They indicated how they use aircards at track days, but since they are not pro’s it is not necessarily cost effective. With RovAir, they can only pay for the weekends they use.

    My Story:
In 2008, I was laid off from a company, of which I was just promoted and subsequently relocated. Like most of the people who were laid off in 2008 and the follow years, I thought what next? I was fortunate enough to move back in with the parents, and have some time to think about my next move. I met a guy with an idea – to rent out aircards from major carriers (Verizon, Sprint) like hotel rooms. I liked the idea, and thought, if it fails, I’m back to where I already am – so I took the risk and never looked back.

Four years later I’m still hustling and we are still a functioning (used loosely) company. Our model has evolved into something much bigger than I ever anticipated. We are solving problems that I never even knew existed. For example, a company that owns 10,000 propane tanks across the Midwest recently contacted us explaining they needed a way to monitor these tanks remotely and without holding the overhead of 10,000 mobile broadband lines. Through our model we could monitor these tanks with less than 1,000 lines. If we cut a deal, that is a huge reduction in expenses for them. Our model has allowed for libraries to provide laptops with internet connectivity for rent, without holding idle contracts. Similar for sales teams that utilize mobile broadband for their road warriors, they might only use the aircard a few times a month, but they are paying for the full month. With RovAir, they pay when they need it.

Along with a few other guys, I put a ton of my time, effort and money into this and we all appreciate you taking a few minutes to support our application – maybe then we can quit our other jobs and really take off.

    Thanks Guys!

Voted, but my question is why the hell do they need broadband to monitor propane tanks? You wouldn't need high speed, just a constant connection.

But that's me. PLCs do not take that much data just to monitor parameters.

Everything else. Very solid idea and plan.

                Thanks man! Much appreciated!

                Jake, Thanks for your vote!

So the propane tank guys only need a connection for a few seconds to take a reading. Why just a static reading as opposed to a real time reading, I'm not sure. You are right, they don't need to worry about the speed as a priority, it is more of a logistical thing - since they only need the connection for a few seconds, it doesn't make sense to pay for a full time connection, which would be tied to one contract per tank. I can tie one contract to a bunch of tanks, hence saving them money.

It is one of the few companies in the comptetion that isn't a restaurant, brewery, dog walking service etc. So I'm hoping I can pull the 180 votes left to even be heard by the panel.
