    Quicktime help?

I'm running Windows XP SP2, and I'm trying to download the latest version of Quicktime. On Apple's website, it has a place to download Quicktime, but when you download it, all you get is iTunes with Quicktime. I don't want iTunes, but it said it came with Quicktime, so I installed it. Now that it's installed, all of my .mov files will still only open with Media Player Classic, and if I try to choose what program to open them with, Quicktime isn't even in the list of programs to choose from. What's the deal?

Its apples way of saying, "Hahaha, you're getting iTunes wether you like it or not." I was pissed when I saw that, complete garbage.

You might have to try to find an old installer, if they still exist. Or try to find a different player.

            Thanks, Pasha.

And no, I'm not using iTunes for my music. I've been using Winamp since almost the first release, and I've never been let down.

Or you can get Quicktime Alternative.

Get QuickTime Alternative, a free replacement for QuickTime Player, from Free-Codecs. Enjoy playback of QuickTime files without installing Apple's software

That's what was in the last version of the K-Lite Mega Codec pack I downloaded, and I think that's what's causing the problems. I uninstalled the whole thing, found a new K-Lite pack that doesn't have it, and am installing it. The Quicktime alternative doesn't allow me to watch half of the movie trailers on Apple's site, and that's one of my favorite things on the web.

Okay, when you go to the "Open with..." menu not all programs are going to show up. So choose "Browse". Now Quicktime should be somewhere in Program Files/*Quicktime* where * = something. Also, make sure to check the "Always Open With..." check box. If that doesn't make sense hit me up on AIM next time I'm on.

An alternative way to do this is to go to the tools menu in explorer and select folder options (also available from the control panel). Select the last tab which should be labeled something like "File Types." From here find .mov. Select it and then click the button that says "Opens With..." (or something similar). It should either pop up the recommended programs window or just let you browse to it. Either way, refer to above directions.

I put quicktime on my computer and just did the custom install, that way I could uncheck the I-tunes and all the other crap they wanted to install.
