Wife and I share a Mazda cx7 turbo. Love it. Awesome vehicle, keeping that.
I have my e30 which is in perpetual "project" status.
We need a 2nd car, a good point a to b car, with the afterthought of it being descent for camping and road trips.

Car 1
2003 ford focus wagon.
60k miles. No rust, 5spd clean ready to go.

Pro: somewhat roomy with the wagon, descent gas mileage, easy to work on.
Low miles.

Con: expensive-ish at $3100
No sunroof, no leather, it's a ford focus.

Car 2
2000 Buick lesabre ls
Pro: series 2 3800 engine ( gm's best built engine)
Descent miles at 110miles.
Super pimp blue leather interior in Mint condition.
Fully loaded.
Is cheap at 1650

Cons:
Has cosmetic issues. Very mild surface rust starting to bubble around hood.
As mileage not as good.
It's a old man car.
Versatility not as great as wagon, but trunk is huge.

Save 1500 ish dollars and go Buick?
Or spend the extra on the newer less mileage focus

get this camery le. it's in the middle of your price range, decent space like the focus and you'll sleep well knowing its not going to f you with issues. better gas mileage and easier to work on.

$3k budget? Not much to work with - usually for a woman, you just want something that's not going to leaver her stranded and has air bags all over the place.

I bet that ford would be a better choice. +1 on something honda/toyota.
