because , like everything new BMW, the testing is too short, and direct injection is a newer thing for BMW gasoline engnes. the N55 (which is the replacement for the N54) now has another completely new style injector, which is different from the original N55 injectors, which were a complete redo of the N54.
Lets not talk about the 4 cyl. euro engines and sparkplugs/coils!!!!!!

without knowing what fault codes it's setting off, it's really hard to say what it is.
I've also replaced ALOT of cams with cam trays on those motors too, the ring on the cam wears out the cam tray, and doesn't let the oil pressue build for the vanos to function correctly.

now that I read it again, I bet you have a dying injector.
Thanks man. I'll update when I know more.

Sounds like bad injectors. If you bring the car up to WA send me a pm.

It was the injectors. Just talked to the tech yesterday. The last time they worked on the car they only replaced one bank of injectors, and I am not quite clear on this, the car was having a hard time making both the banks of injectors work together so they replaced all the injectors at ones...?
Hopefully this wraps up the problem. Ill find out when I get back to SF on Tuesday.

It all has to do with warranty. BMW says-- replace only 1 injector if that is all the fault codes are showing. after it doesn't work and the customer comes back (shitty thing from BMW) they then decide-- replace EVERYTHING. It is just a way of trying to save a few dollars.

do you have the singleturbo motor or the twin turbo motor? if it is the twin turbo motor, I would start complaining now that the turbos are rattling at idle-- the wastegate rods tend to rattle when the motors have about 60,000 miles on em. and the only REAL fix is 2 new turbos-- about 3000 euro job over here!

I do not know where the scratch came from. I am over that. We just had the body shop fix damage to the rear fender from some road garbage and the body shop resprayed that whole fender so no more scratches.
We get the car back tomorrow with 6 new injectors and who knows what ells. The mechanic took the car home tonight to check it out before he gives it back to us. They are also giving my girl friend a months (maybe even two!) worth of car payments back for the time it took to fix the car.
Even though we have had a lot of problems the people at this dealership really do bend over backwards for us. All of them are good people and I like working with them.
