    Sleep Lab's

Anyone ever have to do one?

Long story short, but all my life I've had my gf's tell me I sleep oddly...but the thing is I actually stop breathing when I sleep.
I'll wake up 4-5 times a night with my heart racing and it feels like I just sprinted up a flight of stairs.

So I got this refereal to attend a sleep lab in which they videotape me and watch me sleep...I searched it on the innanetz a litte bit and they aparently hook you up full of wires....I'll looks like a eagle talon engine bay.

I DO NOT WANT one of those Dath Vader machines.
    I don't snore whatsoever.

has anyone else had to do one of these things?

f'ken spending a friday night @ the hospital. fuck i'm old.

      Are you overweight?

Big contributor to sleep apnea. If you need a breathing machine do it, people with sleep apnea have dramatically increased risks of heart attack/stroke, etc etc

        I'm 6'1 235.
        my bmi is 22.
        I train regularly

by definition I'm on the cusp, but I compete in BB/Strength competitions...the sleep issue runs in my family aparently.

I don't want one of those machines as it greatly impacts my self esteem...but if need be it's better than dying:yawn:

Try to loose a couple of pounds and that should solve your problem.

They have better machines these days. They are like the oxygen things they use at the hospital. It seems that usually people with sleep apnea are at least a bit overweight but not necessarily. Sleep apnea causes people to be chronically sleep deprived due to waking up suffocating many (hundreds?) of times each night.

                    BINGO!
My mom has the same thing but she's 60 (not that it has anything to do with it tho). With her, she snores TERRIBLY! my GF and I couldn't even sleep in the same apartment with her! She'd snore, then stop breathing while she struggled to get more oxygen (like OP, but just with snoring).

They say that doing this long term can cause without treatment can obviously cause death, but it also kills brain cells as the brain NEEDS oxygen to survive. As a result doing this over the course of a week is similar in terms of detrimental effects as a night of heavy drinking.

OP, lose weight. plain and simple. I also BB competitively and lift weights, but I'm only 5 or 6 on the BMI at 150 lbs. But I am only 5'8" tho with a very small frame (many females out weigh me, incl my own GF!...I know, i'm a pathetic excuse for a male)

Its the right step for prolonging your life expectancy and QUALITY of life.

5'8 and 150, are you a figures model?
I'm not about drying my body out for the sake of vascularity and weight class qualifications.

6'1 235 is pretty average considering I just competed in IDFA where my BMI came in at 16.6 (mind you I droped to 222lbs) when being tested in a dunk tank facility at our local university.

Everyone one jumps on the "oh you're fat" bandwagon, but this is actually a disorder that manages to affect people of every shape.

Sounds like sleep apnea to me! I have it too, or so I've been told by my PCP. I'm 6'1" 220 at 16% BF. I could lose a few pounds, but I'm not overweight by any means. Just a big Italian build. I'm active, lift heavy, do cardio regularly, frequent the gym, in otherwise great health. She thinks smoking may have something to do with it. Both cigarettes and weed.

I was offered to do this overnight experiment too, never took them up on it. I'm only 21, but I'd rather be preventative then having to deal with something down the line, I may reconsider the study.

My friends dad has this I think.

He will literally stop breathing for 15-30 seconds at a time while he sleeps. My friend and I noticed it not too long ago. He went to the doctor, and sure enough he had some dangerous problem. He got a machine that keeps his breathing steady at night.

It is like a little noisy air pump you have to wear over your mouth/nose at night.

True, ignorance isn't the best solution. Old GF told me I'd stop breathing while sleeping all the time. For a pretty decent amount of time, I brushed it off because she was a dumb bitch, but it's something to look into.
