Hey cellphone gurus, lend me your ear...

Wife and I are going to switchback to AT&T when our current Sprint plan is up the 1st week of October.

What's the new badboy phone to get, or is there a new one that is supposed to come out before them?

We both currently have EVO 4G's, but can't handle Sprint sucky coverage when we go on roadtrips.

iPhone 5, at least that is what the wife and I are getting when our Sprint contract is up. We also both have the Evo 4G POS's.

Oh, and we are going back to Verizon. LTE and excellent coverage. Sprint can fuck off with their unlimited 3G crap. I have spotty data coverage at best in Phoenix.

I've heard the s3 is pretty revolutionary, minus S-Voice, I'm not sure if At&t has it though.
If you're against contracts, Google is selling their Galaxy Nexus for $349 unlocked/brand new. That way, you can go to any carrier who uses sim cards and use their services without having to sign a contract since you're bringing your own equipment.

Or stick it out with sprint til the iphone 5 comes out. They say it's supposed to come out September? But it's all speculation and for all we know, Steve Jobs may very well still be alive ;)

Other than waiting for the new iPhone there's the HTC One X 1.5 Ghz dial core processor , 1gb of ram LTE a 1280x720 hd screen An 8mp camera and beats audio , seems like a nice piece of tech I was playing with one at the AT&T store a week ago very fast screen is really nice and massive (like almost five inches) and seemed well made (pretty hefty)

Does it make the monthly bill any cheaper since they aren't subsidizing your phone purchase?

Depends where you go. I work at Radioshack and customers always pay for the phone up front and they pay just for the service they receive monthly. I guess if you go directly to the carrier you have the option of making payments on the phone along with the monthly service bill.

edit: did I answer your question? I'm 12 and don't know what subsidize means.

It means instead of paying $200 for the phone and $100 a month (part of which is covering the $600 retail cost of the phone)...........I pay the $600 up front, then pay $84/month.

If no discount, the Google phone isn't worth it just to avoid the contract. I mean only AT&T/TMobile use SIM right, Sprint/Verizon don't? Or am I mixing that up?

I doubt it. You're signing a contract so you can get an expensive phone at a much discounted price, so if you already have your phone then no need to sign a contract.

You might be right though, but as far as I know, you're able to do it with anyone as long as the phone's technology allows, as in unlocked/gsm/cdma etc.

No you got 'em. I'd advise you to call At&t and check, just say you already have a phone and stuff and see what they say. I personally just hate contracts, a serious relationship is bad enough sometimes.

I've been eligible for an upgrade through AT&T for a while, but I've been using my SHATTERED iPhone 4 for months in anticipation for the iPhone 5.

Go prepaid. Its a lot cheaper.

Prepaid phone plans, where you pay the full price for a cellphone and then pay cheaper monthly rates without a contract, seem to offer what most budget-conscious people want. So why haven’t they really caught on?
