Let's say a new clock costs $80 the problem is that the faceplate appears to be NLA. You would need to source out old face plates and/or maybe used clocks from ebay or here on R3V which appear to cost $40-50 plus shipping. Then add your materials for your clock and your time to make them on top of that. If you could get those costs down to around $50 plus shipping and paypal fees you would be a little over $100. Not sure if the R3V members would pay that much but you need to put a value on it and see how the response is. This is a cool item, GLWS.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I just came to same conclusion about the clock face. Kind of a bummer.

I have done some due diligence regarding other cost components, ignoring my labour.
      See below

      - dc socket - $1
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-5-5-m...item1e6d0f76f9

      - power pack 12v - $8
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/48W-LCD-M...item4160d0aea6

      - power lead
      $2.68
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-3-Pro...item20ca644fab

      clock $86USD

      clock face
      unknown

      wiring - ~$0.50

      heat shrink - ~$0.25

      wood - ~$1

      aluminium - $3

So assuming a new clock, cost in parts alone is just over $100.
A second hand clock brings that down by about $30-35.

I know dealing with R3v is like dealing with school-age children, but I do want to help out. If people want to send me a clock, I can turn it into a desk clock for you for some sort of rudimentary price to at least appease myself I am not working weekends for nothing.

You are welcome to pay me in craft beers if you're local :)

I'd be down to just send you my clock, do the transformation, and pay you for your time and materials.

As you know, this Car Hacks column isn't just a forum for my inane ideas and projects— it's a forum for your insane ideas and marriage-destroying obsessions as well. And, happily, I've been getting some very interesting emails about things readers are working on.
