Here is another idea. Back to the spam subforum. Say if everyone with 1000+ posts was given the ability to send threads/posts to the subforum. Like a simple spam button. That way the majority of the users can help with the issue.

Oh and if anyone miss uses it, I believe the ban hammer will solve that problem.

Forum version is pretty outdated. Are there any options for captcha during registration?
The attacks are worldwide on tons of forums, not just vBulletin.

I've been looking at the IP and seems to be different ones. I've been doing this mainly from my phone, so its been a little more on the difficult side to keep up with it all.

I wonder weather the ip addresses of the spammers are from a particular country/countries?

Could just block all I IP's from said country/countries, and if someone from said country/countries wants to join the forums they will have to email a moderator. Simple solution if you ask me.

The reported post goes to our personal email. And I'm the type of guy who only checks it a few times a week. I can't speak for the others, but yeah it does help. Evermore so when the spam post is in a thread and don't have its own thread

It's as if they read this thread and felt threatened and attacked the site while most of R3v was asleep. Spammers be reading the art of war by SUn Tzu dawg.
