Should I return my new Sony Alpha for BMW parts?

So I bought a new Sony a57 because I've been meaning to replace my Nikon D50 I sold a couple years ago especially now that I have a son and we live so far away from family. It was 800 and I don't really care much for the lens that came with it but I do love the camera.

I just got my semi daily driver's spare head back from the machine shop and it needs a head gasket kit to complete that project, a new set of proper control arms to replace the ebay ones that have lasted a year, a water pump, and a brake job. That's all about 850 - 900 dollars in parts.

Im debating whether I should return the a57 and keep using my little powershot g9 until I really have money to burn, buy the alpha body only and get the two lens I want instead of the 18 - 55 AF lens it comes with.

I mean I really love photography but just wonder if the wife kinda convinced me because I know she wants to use it on AUTO mode to take a million pictures of our son for Flickr.
Ma che cazzo state dicendo? :|

                      It is?

100 bucks a side for a loaded control arm. I bought the 170 dollar kit off ebay of no names before - they suck. They don't last unless I live in Mexico where it never rains.

So thats 200 bucks not including shipping.

Head gasket kit from Pelican Parts is 150 and the head bolt set is 15.

So thats up too 365. Oh yea the kit doesn't include exhaust manifold gaskets due to the M44 exhaust manifold changing from 96 to 97-99 for an EGR valve.

Genuine BMW rotors, Mintex pads, and the two wear sensors Front/Rear come out to be 315 from BavAuto. Not including shipping to ship 4 rotors and pads.

So we are up to 680.

Aftermarket metal impeller water pump is 55 shipped.

So we are up to 735 not including shipping (estimate that around 80 bucks combined Pelican and BavAuto) we're over 810 plus any other gasket or bullshit item I need to finish the job (Like timing chain wear items or the timing chain.)

Right but I only need 2 control arms for 200.

I dont need the 140 dollars worth of extra shit.

Maybe if you have a kid and had to resort to buying ebay control arms in the past, you shouldn't be dropping $800 on a new camera.

Bavauto and pelican charge too high. Try blunttech.
