You could just finish replacing the head on your e30 instead of buying another wheeled vehicle..........

OP: a thread on this smoker would be welcome here, if you care to share:

there's a small tight-knit community of us that run two-stroke thumpers (Aprilia, Derbi, YSR, etc), monthly rides around the bay:

here's my barn-find i picked up last year- MY1999 80cc watercooled 2T, had 400 miles when i got it, just over 1000 now.

      ride safe.

Cannot wait to see what it looks like when your done! What's your color scheme?

My friend has a honda hobbit that needs a total refresh. I was in the process of tearing it down for him when he just walked inside like I was supposed to do all the work. Now it just sits in a damp garage. Getting rustier.
        Swanny!

You should buy it from him and fix it!

My color scheme will be revealed this summer :p

nope, they were sold here new (no longer, EPA killed all 2Ts). my red bike apparently sat on a dealership floor for 10 years before someone remembered it was there and sold it. i have a silver one too, but the PO hacked a lot of shit on it, so in the process of undoing most of that it became an 80cc "streetfighter", and then a parts bike because i forgot tags and started moving late model parts over to the early-model red bike.

there's one on CL right now with 300mi, but it's a 50cc. i probably don't have to explain that you want a big-bore if at all possible :P

i broke my wrist last year and operating a clutch has been painful/problematic since. i have feelers out through the BATS forum to sell them both & my parts stash, but no movement yet. not worried about it; don't need money badly enough to deal with selling a bike on CL.

Very cool OP. There's a group of guys round me who are really into resto modding mopeds like so

Not really my thing, but still pretty radical for a 50cc scooter.

Well after my E30's head took a shit last winter, all my time but more importantly my funds were depleted. I'm going to put this back together aside from the panels and tank and make sure she is running right.

How it sits as of March 2013:

Fresh paint on the frame, the tank was primed by myself but I decided I'm going to send the tank, and body panels off to get stripped & professionally painted instead. Cleaned and conditioned seat. I'll be getting new tires and the wheels plated chrome this summer.

                  Heres more pics:

                  Painted frame and new belt:

Oh and after a couple months the new California license plate & title came through. One time $18 registration ftw. I can't wait to bolt it on.

                      It runs!

                      Getting it together

Leaky petcock, have to find a new one.

All the electrical components work and I managed to wire everything up correctly. :)

First start since pulling the thing apart. Had a few hiccups like forgot to torque the spark plug and carb Lol! Kind of bogs on the low end, looking at an exhaust pipe to fix that on Treatland.
                      Video: (rattling license plate)

Also, while riding around on it, I passed by some guy's garage and he had a shit ton of mopeds and parts. He gave me a new clutch cable, a smaller sprocket for the wheel, and a stock Puch exhaust to mess around with, only 5 minutes after meeting him. It was awesome!
Now I just need to get the body panels painted or powdercoated, I cant decide.

I didn't know Batavus made scooters. Back in the day I had a Europa road bike. It was really quite fast...till I had to take to the side of the road to avoid a car. Bent the forks and could never find a replacement set.

Good to see you're making progress on your project!

Back in the 90s, my little brother had a purple 50cc Batavus scooter. It had pedals in case you were stranded and the wire wheels were probably 18" or so in diameter. Drum brakes front and rear. We just to bomb hills in our neighborhood and acheived 45mph or so on 30 year old Michelin rubber. Huge fun. No idea what happened to that thing.

Thx. Yea unfortunately lots of the things aren't readily available but craigslist, google, and ebay help for that.

Nice! I wish this one went a little faster. I'm going to mod it to get there. They're tons of fun.
