first time I ever witnessed a heel-toe downshift was in a Peugeot 505 turbo, so I have a special place in my heart for these cars. Sina, yours is the equivalent of an OEM+ e30
So after (not that much) research, I've learned this:
SUs are the first step in performance for most small-displacement engines. A bit odd to set up, but aside from bushing and throttle shaft wear they're pretty bulletproof and reliable carbs. Probably the best setup for a daily driver who isn't super knowledgeable about Weber/DellOrto/Mikuni tuning.
The sidedraught Solexes are the ones they used on things like the TiSA. Not very common as they didn't have many standard fitments. Apparently Mikuni licensed the name/design at some point. Perhaps the Mikunis used on Datsuns like 510s are basically these Solexes? Apparently can be pretty thirsty, but apparently a little more tractable in the midrange than the Weber/DellOrto.
Webers are kind of the "gold standard" sidedraught carb and definitely the most popular in racing circles. They offer the best top-end power at the price of fairly complicated setup and tuning. Can be hard to balance and keep smooth at lower rpm. It's not scientific, but they're my favorite. Haha...
DellOrtos, in my uneducated opinion, are effectively Webers. There are minor differences in things like jet design but most of the pros and cons cancel each other out.
