The easiest way to get clean is don't get started in the first place.

I grew up in Elkton, MD and went to school in Baltimore, I have seen more druggies that I wish to remember, but I have never touched the stuff myself (which I am very grateful for). One of my childhood friends is now addicted to heroin, and it has destroyed his life. His wife left him and took their three kids, and the guy now resorts to stealing from his own family to get his next high. Utterly sick.

I may have a biased outlook, but I have very little tolerance for druggies, but, a great respect for someone who has successfully become clean.

I am so greatful of a great friend that told EVERYTHING that was going down to my wife. saved my life for sure. Unfortunately, that great friend moved back to the U.S. and got hooked on heroin....... and I am here not able to help him back.

really sorry about your loss. Stay strong.

Shit man I'm sorry to hear. I have never, and will never touch drugs. I drink occasionally and that's enough for me. I have been slowly finding myself shying away from a close group of friends because they seem to be getting more and more into your harder drugs. Weed I don't mind, never done it but I don't mind being around it. The other day a few of them busted out some coke and molly and I hit the door. Only lost one friend from an overdose but that was enough. I know a few people that are on the edge of serious addiction problems and will not listen to a word anyone says. I will not be surprised when I get a call that they have passed away.

i used to smoke alot of weed, and i mean ALOT. i stopped about 6 years ago, since i like having a job. i've never done anything "harder" than that, and i dont ever plan to.

i did lose a close female friend in high school to an overdose. she went to a party with her boyfriend (who was a known "druggie"), and she ended up doing a bit of heroin with him and his friends and then going to sleep.

            She never woke up.

the funeral was the tuesday before thanksgiving, so every year around this time i make sure to talk to her family and make sure everybody is doing allright. i'm still friends with her sister, and we meet up occasionally and talk.

Agreed on all points. I've cut off most of my family because I just can't deal with that shit. I don't need it in my life. My dad kicked it all 10 years ago, but it sure as hell wasn't easy.

Sorry for your loss, OP. Lost my grandmother to it 15 years ago in March. Shit's weak.

My one best friend's neighbor put a bullet in his head. The guy was bestfriends with my best friend Josh.. Josh was away at Navy bootcamp while it happened.

He had many health problems though and Im sure he is in a better place now. RIP Chad

Yea sorry to hear that. I've never touched drugs myself, not even weed. Where I grew up Ive seen too many crackheads at the corner store and had an aunt with an addiction. And when I got to middleschool my older cousin drive me around some places he used to hang out and was showing me friends from high school that were all stars and had NBA, NFL potential and screwed it all up because of drugs.

I also have cousins that were dealers. I didnt grow up in the best area so D.A.R.E was big there and i just always said no. Growing up I just seen to much of the REAL effects of drugs to ever want to try them. I didn't care if it was as "innocent" as weed. I don't even take prescribed meds unless its a necessity. That stuff is no joke.

In the end you just have to surround yourself with the right people and influences.
