Christmas package for my friend in Afghanistan

Has anyone on R3V been deployed in Afghanistan during the winter? One of my friends who I have known sins kindergarten is on his first deployment in the hills of Afghanistan as a 13F in the 82nd. I want to send him a Christmas care package, and I'd like some advice on what to send from some active duty people and veterans.
Any essentials you wish you had had? Warm weather gear, TP, candy, coffee, magazines, and so on.

My daughter was in A-Stan for two years. She liked movies (DVDs), candies, canned food, and canned soda-pop. Slim Jims were almost like currency on her base, but results may vary.

Cash goes a long way over there too. Id send her $100, and she said it was like having a thousand at the markets.

I wouldnt send any clothing gear...they normally have pretty tight regs on what they can wear, and provide more than adequate cold weather garb.

The USPO also has flat-rate containers specific to our armed services. They are inexpensive, and not weight bound...if you can get it to fit, they will send it...period (thus all the canned goods I was sending).

Its kinda hard to say. Almost anything can be ordered and delivered now. Except some types of batteries. Some of the recent DVD releases are nice since all the bootleg copies arent that great on the new ones. The trial sized items at Walmart are always a good idea as they can be stowed and tranported in your gear without added weight of a full bottle.

Maybe Ill by a USB stick and fill it up with movie collection. That might better then DVDs.
Can't send him money as I am broke at te end of the moth every month right now hahaha. Student
Ill go to the USPS and ask for a box this week and start filling it.

More or less I was super happy to get the little shit that I cannot get there. Then again it all depends on if he has access to a PX.
