Any kart racers here? I ran a couple races at Sears Point

So, this was a while ago but I havent posted it here yet or anything so I might as well. The race was 11/26 at the big track at infineon -- where cars and such race, not the kart track on the hill.

I was a transplanted sprint karter (short, small, tight tracks) into road racing (car tracks typically) that day and I think it kind of helped to be able to visualize the big track as a giant blown up sprint track, and to push just as hard but on a greater scale aside from sliding, to keep the momentum up. Ive only done one previous sprint race, thanksgiving weekend the previous year in my kart until my frame broke and we went home with a DNF 3.5 hours into the 4 hour race. Essentially these were to be my first races that I'd actually complete.

So anyway I won both of my races at the big track. It definately surprised me, but I was determined to prove myself and at least do 'well' being a newbie to road racing. The first race of the day was cake, I was only racing against one other kart but I didnt know that until after the race. During that time I made my own race and beat all of a different engine class (that I thought I was racing against originally, we all started together) that I thought was typically always a little faster than mine.

The second race was another story. The competition was a swamp of I think 24 karts and being a novice I had to start in the back. The first heat of that I placed second. The second heat however I HAD to win to place first overall, If there was a tie in finishing positions the 2nd heat was to be the tie breaker. I had to start in the back again even though I did well in the first heat, I won that heat though by two FEET. Due to practically polar opposite gear ratios it was a very good race and on different parts of the track we would have different advantages. Typically who finished 2nd would always pull me out of turn 11 all the way across the start/finish line and did again the final lap. I let it happen though to get behind him to draft and popped out just in time to inch by and win.

I thoroughly believe that winning is winning whether its down to the wire like that or by half a lap but that its more satisfying to have a much closer race with someone else. It was a blast. I just had to eventually post :D

If you want to see the first lap of heat 1, IM me on AIM or something.

    Tracking down the leader..

In first place as usual going into turn 2..

The finish of heat 2..who could tell from that point? :s

After both of my races with friends..

One of the engineers that I worked with over the summer races karts, but I don't know of any other tracks that he races besides Road America.

      Nice racing.

Funny you mention that. In the first heat when I was battling with the regional champ (3rd overall in the end) going into turn 2 there was a slow moving road block novice kart. Scott and I are side by side and he splits to the right in an attempt to scrape me off behind the noobie but there was a gap still on the outside of the track and I took it. Unfortunately according to Scott, the novice freaked out when I flew by on the outside of him, looked over at me and turned hard right, right into him instead. When I met and talked to Scott for the first time after tha race I asked what happened cause he dropped back quite a bit. Apparently thats what happened, then the novice "mario karted" spinning off the track, spun Scott around 360 degrees and kept going.

        Luuuucckkyy. Goosh.

oooh road america :) Supernationals there. I might try to go next year. That'd be cool, yo. :P

I'd LOVE to do it, but the $$$ and time involved would get in the way of the other projects I have. I just stick to the 1.46 Kilometer track we've got local to my post. Run public carts on it and have fun. They even have a bar at the place so you can get all sloshed and then go racin. Good times....

That's cool, I have a kart too. It's a 5.5 hp BS ethanol burner. Coyote FS chassis.

Would like to go back to a 2 stroke but noise rules in my area prohibt it. I use it for auto-X events.
