    congrats man.

still unemployed here. to answer your original question:

started my own "business". really just a collection of small software projects that work together. on a very small scale, they're cashflow positive and looking at ROI in a few months, but that's not the point-

the point is when i'm at my next job interview and get asked "well what have you been doing for half a year?" i can point at this, explain all the technologies used, and spend another 15 minutes on quasi-technical business aspects like SEO that translate to "this guy monetizes for the company if we hire him".

working on a sales engineer opportunity right now... hopefully i make some progress with it this week.

Been laid off in my career 3x through no fault of my own. It's the price I pay for working with startups and smaller companies. This is what I do:

Hit your contacts frequently. I use LinkedIn, FB and other professional social media webstites.

Have your resume polished. Brush up on your certs, skills, interview techniques. This blog is a fantastic resource about how HR works, which is helpful when looking for work and interviews. www.hrnasty.com Read through it, extrapolate, execute.

Start freelancing. I did this the last time and it turned into a fantastic fulltime job. It allowed my clients to "kick the tires" on my skills and performance without the overhead. Eventually, I was picked up by one of my clients exclusively and I still work from home, so my workdays are largely pants-optional. :)

Make your job to find a job. Keep yourself busy. Go to professional association meetings, trade shows, offer to teach or mentor.

When my work was slow I volunteered at a local race shop, building endurance cars. I may have been down on my luck, but those 3-5 hours I would spend on the cars kept my mind sharp, and really gave me some sweet satisfaction when that team won their first out in an international event.

Also, consider working abroad. I did that under a 18 mos contract and it was eye-opening and quite lucrative. It didn't allow for a lot of time for much else, but that little stint is now the most queried bit of experience on my resume.

Don't be afraid to take less at another position, but don't sell yourself short. If the job will give you opportunities to braoden your skills and you can live comfortably, you ARE better off. :)

i've been in this boat since dec 27th... championship beer league hockey game, get taken out on a breakaway on the 2nd shift of the game and spin feet first full speed into the end boards. resulted in a spiral fractured tibia, which was fixed with a titanium rod and screws.

as of today i still cant walk with the walking boot without crutches, but have been making fast progress. lots of laying around and elevating for me.

obviously i have been out of work, waiting to hear back or see a check for disability. lots of video games, movies, internets, etc etc. things got a lot better when the school semester started, i'm out all day mon-fri due to being dependent on rides to and from since i cant drive (clutch leg). overall it was pretty boring but the drugs were good.

yeah this basically twisted till it broke, and the fib NOT breaking is what made it come back to almost where it should be. i knew it broke when i moved my foot in my skate and felt it click.

              thanks!

                Thanks guys.

Yeh I had a few contacts that I go in touch with but nothing is going on at the moment. Hopefully because this is an election year we might actually see some money being spent by the government. In the mean time HP offers a lot of opertunities so will see where the future takes me.
