I am going to be building within 2 years or so and am defiantly looking at automated smart energy solutions (energy prices have gone up 400% in the last couple of years in Australia) so building a house with 1970's techniques makes no scene.
I am planning on using a something like a Tridium Niagara system as the base and then using an open protocol network to interface to devices such as HVAC and lighting systems.
Hoping the end result will result in vastly reduced energy and water bills also be able to control the house from anywhere.
