    London or Austin?

London - Put myself on the waiting list for Top Gear UK tickets last year, finally got an email to enroll for the lottery for tickets. So still not a guarantee. Way expensive, so no going crazy American tourist style and what not, pretty much check out some sites in London, spend a day at Top Gear, fly back. Wife is down with this.

Austin - Thinking about checking out the V8 Supercars race at COTA. Heard Austin is a cool place to visit, music, food, etc. Much cheaper than London, so have enough money to actually do things aside from the race. Enjoyed the F1 race on TV, seems like a kick ass track. Not so sure if the wife would go to this one.

Got enough cash and blessing from the wife for maybe one trip this year, so what say you? If you have better experience with either, please give me some feedback on these choices.

            London, without a doubt.

Imperial war museum, speakers corner in hyde park, London eye, tons to do..............plus, it's got the benefit of not being Austin.

London is a lot of fun and a cool experience, but not sure just a couple days would be worth the flight. It's just a cultural experience to revel in it, I'd wander around and hit up the sites that interest you most, whether it be museums, the London Eye, bars (Absolut Ice Bar is always a chill spot), whatever. Tell your wife you can go to Harrods and should help seal the deal.

It's not a cheap place, but is 40% cheaper than when I lived there, so don't let that hold you back. Julien is biased because he's a frog, but if you are Anglo-Saxon, I'd say it's a worthy trip for heritage. Although there may be good reasons to visit elsewhere too (Holland, Brussels, Saint-Tropez, Rome, Munich, Prague, Barcelona, whatever), London is a fun trip so do what you want and then just plan for next year.

Plus, I saw the coolest cars while I was there, but maybe because I was in one of the most posh parts of the city. Lambo dealer one block to the SW, Ferrari two blocks to the North. But London throughout seemed to be a place for car guys, congestion tax or not.

Affording a longer trip might be more fun in Austin, but I'd still recommend saving up and visiting London, and maybe taking the Eurostar into the mainlaid of Europe too, even if not this year.

Having friends to visit/have them show me around/stay with might also help sway the decision if you know anyone there. My friends always talk about 6th Street in Austin. So does Tucker Max IIRC. I guess it matters what you are looking for, crazy party or what - or cars and culture.

Austin. More money left over for e30
What it feels like owning an e30:

                        88 325 S50 swap in progress
                        90 325ix

and yeah, brussels is a crap load of fun, although has probably the crappiest weather know to man. St Tropez is where you go if you wanna make it rain.

That said my favorite place in europe is the island of corisca (porto vecchio is amazing)

i may or may not have popped bottles in that club before..

I'm with Heeter (although I've never been to London, or Europe for that matter) I wouldn't bother with the time/expense of getting to Europe unless I had the money and time to really enjoy it.

Go to Austin and keep saving to visit Europe.

Yeah, it's no surprise why people flock south for vacation. I passed through Brussels during July a few years ago and the weather was nice, so hopefully will be able to spend more time with the local brews and luck out again. A week in Munich for spring break was cold and windy, but the adventures were excellent. Sex, Drugs, and Football Thugs had some good stories about the clubs in the south of France, and definitely enjoyed all the music from there. I'd much rather check it out vs ever going back to Paris. Oh well. I think everyone should make a list and go everywhere.

Yep Buddy: I think you have to consider time at vacation vs. travel time. Looking up flights, 5 hours travel time with one stop form Norfolk to Austin, for ~$400 each. 10+ hours of travel time to London with $890 each. If you are only spending a few days, I'd rather only invest a small fraction getting to where you want to be. OP - Save up and spend a week+ during 2014 abroad.
