    Crowdfunding

Anybody run a project on a crowdfuning platform?

I'm running one now. I find the crowdfunding world a pretty interesting place. I think it will be the more popular choice for small companies to raise money - before searching out angels, VC's, Private Equity, IPO etc

    Here is mine...

Crowdfund innovations in tech and design before they go mainstream and support entrepreneurs that are working to bring their dreams to life.

Yeah, well at least that is how it started. Then it became perk based, typically a product at a discounted rate (though I have a sweet tuna fishing perk in Cape Cod lol). Today the government (SEC, FINRA) is trying to figure out how to regulate it if people become equity partners via a crowdfunding site.

Sounds like a fancy name for people wanting handouts. Or in the case that there are "perks", it sounds like an exchange of money for goods or services -- which sounds a lot like something called a market.

That is one way to look at it. At the moment, it is a medium for people or businesses to raise money. I don't know how familiar you are with being a self starter, however raising money isn't as fun as it seems. Very rarely is an entrepreneur faced with an opportunity to raise money in this fashion, where the investor doesn't take majority ownership. I've seen political parties funded, art projects funded, heck even a Tesla Museum project raised over 1MM dollars.

Exactly, and despite their reputation for being primarily art, theature and music projects kickstarter actually funds many business projects.

Why all the bans? Crowdfunding is a HUGE topic right now. It's funding businesses and putting jobs on the map.

Also, my specific project will take wasted data not used by businesses and put it in the hands of people that need the internet; essentially sharing resources. It's another hot topic - collaborative consumption, or sharing economy.
