is this fightable?(parking ticket)

so today i got a parking violation ticket on the e30 infront of my house.
plates are tagged with 2011 because it was non op, but it is paid up until today, just need to smog it.
got a citation for parking on the street with expired tags, was unaware this was illegal but my tags are paid up until next year,i thought well ill just appeal and it wont be a big deal, if i have to pay it then oh well its a parking ticket.

then i saw the fee, $280 fucking dollars due in 21 days or less.

im pissed!
then i realize i probably wont win an appeal because of the status of the car.

i have no idea what to do :/ i do have a vehicle moving permit for a day (referred to as a day pass to get the vehicle smogged) i could fill it all in for the day the ticket was issued and try to use it to get out of my ticket.

thoughts/insight? i really cant afford this absurd ticket and i'm pretty damn upset.

If your tags are up to date and the ticket is for expired tags. I don't think the status of the car should come into play. As long as the violation you got cited for is taken care of.

You cannot park a non-op car in the street. It has to be on a private driveway/garage. That is why you got your ticket. Your only chance now is to validate that moving permit somehow and hope that it gets you out of the parking violation. Have you checked to see if there are any markings on the tires?
