    HEELLLPPP! Our cat needs surgery!

Hey guys, my wife had to take our cat to the vet this morning for what we thought was a simple infection. It turns out, he will probably have to have a very costly surgery to remove bladder stones. There's no way we can afford his medical care, so we're asking for any help we can. If you can't donate, please share his story so that maybe we can get Nimbus the care he needs. Any extra money raised will go to the humane society that we adopted him from three and a half years ago.

    Thanks in advance.

they dont have to do that (unless there is more to it then simple UTI balder stones) . They can tap his bladder to remove the urine and mitigate the chance his balder ruptures.

We have been though this very thing with several cats. There are several ways around (surgery is one of them though) They can put him on a heavy heavy dose of a Methyoform (sp) that will help to dissolve the stones and make them small enough for him to pass them. They can back flush his Uniary tract to push the stones back into the bladder and continue meds to dissolve the stones, though the blockages may return as soon as you get him home.

The key to this NOT HAPPENING again is put him on the correct Low ash food an maybe a low dose of the scrip mentioned above. Mostly the low ash food will be enough, its a prescription food thats sorta costly but well worth it, Its made by Hills Science Diet C/D IIRC.

The other thing we have found with anxious cats that a somewhat timid they dont use the litter box regularly, they will hold it and hold it until they cant hold it anymore. This is what leads to a lot of the crystals forming in their balder, and she has found that putting such critters on a Happy pill, (prozac and Amitriptyline aka Elavil) really helps this. (also if you have one that is an ocasioanl sprayer it helps as well) Yes you will have to get your vet to write out a scrip for it and they will want to fill it there at your vets office. But you can fill the prozac one a walmart for 4 bucks for a 3 or 6 month supply. The Elavil one we get in a 2 year supply by getting a whole bottle from a family member that is a vet. Better living thought chemistry :)

Good luck with your little buddy I know this shit sucks, this is one of the very few true non trauma emergencies for kittahs

Any idea what type of stones they are?

Crystals are most commonly either calcium oxylate (CaO) or struvite (a mixture of magnesium, ammonium, phosphate).

Apparently calcium oxylate need to be surgically removed, but struvite can be dissolved. Check out this site http://catinfo.org/?link=urinarytracthealth
