A couple of weekends ago my brother in law got up early on Saturday morning to go fishing. About 5 AM he was Northbound on I5 North of Vancouver WA when he was hit head on by a guy in a honda Accord going South in the Northbound lanes. Eric doesn't remember the accident, but said he had his cruise set at 75. The Honda was likely going 60-70MPH and didn't have his lights on.

The driver of the Honda died instantly. Eric had his seat belt on and has a broken back, nose and face as well as bad bruising all over his body. Being in a ~8000lb truck is the reason he's not dead too.

Just thought I'd share a couple of the pictures of his truck.

i haven't been to the PNW since 2008, but i remember huge medians for most of I5 between PDX/SEA. honda driver crossed all the way over, or are there spots where it becomes one-pavement? (i realize, you not being there, i'm asking for conjecture.) either way, JFC.

He was drunk and driving a car.. that's why. Driving a car drunk is a very irresponsible thing to do. But I don't think he deserved to die -- he just made a huge mistake. Now his family and friends are paying for it.

I think that it is more likely he was so drunk that he turned down the off ramp and was just driving the wrong direction.




Oh, and Eric's dog was in the truck with him. She seems to be uninjured somehow. She was next to Eric and howling when the first responders got there. I guess they must have spooked her because when they got to Eric, she took off.

Frankly anyone who drives when they are that drunk deserves whatever they get. He killed himself and almost killed someone who was driving an eight thousand pound truck, imagine if he had hit a 4000lb minivan. It's a horrible tragedy but there's nobody to blame but the fuckwad who was driving drunk, the wrong way, without his lights on.
