A mixed drink would be like a whisky coke. A simple two part or three part drink. A cocktail would be something you have to make, were you use actual technique (i.e. shaken).

I'm all about an old fashioned. It's my go to drink. Never house bourbon, usually Bulleit or Knob creek.

    Vesper Martini, shaken not stirred.

Ps. They're terrible, worst drink I've ever had.

Royal Flush. Usually served as a shooter with equal parts, but I like to add more cranberry and drink it on ice.

1oz Crown Royal (I usually go with 1.5oz)
    1oz Peach Schnapps
    Cranberry to taste

My girlfriend once described it as "It's really sweet then it punches you in the face."

    I also like:

Red Headed Slut - Same as above, only with Jager
    Gin and Tonic
Mojitos in the summer on a hot day

Usually drink this in a pint glass.

    1) 1/4 cup with ice
    2) 1/2 Sailor Jerry
    3) 1/2 Squirt
    4) 1/4 lime topped off and mix.

    5) enjoy after you just broke your body at work.

I don't know if there is a "formal" distinction, but I look at it as complex vs simple.

An Old Fashioned I would consider a cocktail, a Long Island Iced Tea I'd mixed drink.

    But it doesn't really matter.

I only have one rule - the cornier the name, the worse the drink.

    Thats it.

you can spice it up with beer instead of whiskey. That'll add a whole new flavor.
Well aren't you fancy, you use a glass.

buddy of mine invented this...don't let the name or color of the drink fool you.

easy to make, and super delicious on a hot summer day.

    I present to you....

    THE PINK DRAAANK
I'm putting the disclaimer HERE, because these are a guarantee "MESS YOU THE FK up" drink if you have too many. I'm 6'1 230lbs, Canadian, and have a good alcohol tolerance. If I drink 4 of these, I'm *tuned*
    -20oz or 25oz Pint glass
    -Ice
    -CHEAP vodka (40%)
    -Sprite or 7 up
    -Rekorderlig Berry Cider(7%)

    start with ice.
pour 1 or 2oz's of vodka on ice.
fill glass with rekorderlig cider untill about half full
top up with sprite or 7up.

    alternatively, adjust to taste.

this is what the Rekorderlig Cider cans look like

Old Fashioned - Nothing less than Snob Creek/Maker's Mark, although typically Woodford Reserve.
Manhattan - I prefer Rye over bourbon, as God intended.
White Russian - For a twist, throw a splash of White Creme De Cacao in. (Many bars/restaurants make these with far too much half-n-half or milk)

I typically stick with the IBA recipes.

Those are about the only three drinks I make at the house. However, a bunch of the places we like to go have awesome cocktail lists.

Has to be beer all day and all night. Otherwise I'll be curled up on the bathroom floor. Apparently even after 37 years I only know how to drink one way.

Back in my idiotic highschool days my friends and I would just get a handle of Seagrams 7 and a liter of coke. Does that count?
