Just saying thank you for building a great community.
however, as a new e30 owner, does anyone know of a collection of detailed DIY's? Im about to start assembling a motor and would really appreciate some quality info. I have a bentley, is that about as good as they get?

thank you for being thankful :)
There's a few books available for e30 projects, and there's a DIY subsection of this forum with a decent listing of them. Beyond those and a bentley, there's not really a great omnibus of e30 DIY info. Motor assembly is pretty general, though, and assembly tricks/techniques/important things are similar between M20s and other motors. The most helpful thing, however, is having someone who's done it before (successfully) at your side.

YUP.
And as far as the DIY knowledge is concerned, this community is straight definitive.
Welcome to the addiction , bro. If you can deal with the bonkers, this site is for you. I wanted an e30 for years, since before I knew it was called "e30." I can now say that R3V has been absolutely integral to the success of my ownership. They are smart, helpful and honest. I once had a guy (timkninja) send me a DME for the cost of shipping. Check to see what a new DME costs. On the forums, have thick skin, use the SEARCH (and imagination when doing so), be polite and receptive. When you're on the road, tell everyone you meet about this site. This place is the stuff of legend.
Since buying my e30 years ago, I have dedicated countless hours, a few thousand dollars and immeasurable emotion. I did some work myself, some not. Some diagnoses were mine, some were the shop's, some were R3V's. But through it all I've driven my e30 almost every day, and can count the number of days it's been off the road with two hands.
Just got the tie-rods and oil pan replaced today. She was getting leaky and loose (like all good whores). The upgrade was much needed- the feeling I get at redline is unrivaled in any car. Still makes me shit-eatin-grin.
