What's the usual tip to give at restaurants in the US?

After reading the comic below, I've realized that you Americans really tip your servers and waiters really well (20%). This was confirmed upon a recent visit to the US.

Up here in Canada I think it's still the 10% I'm not totally sure, as I don't eat out. But when I did, it was usually 10%

    How much do you tip?

If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

i tip really well i tip a minimum of $5 anywhere i go but i'm also picky with my servers too where i wont tip, if they are really good i tip more because for the job they do alot of servers do not make enough money with the shit they deal with.

Depending on how great the service was, I usually tip about 25%. i.e, $20 bill I'll leave $5.

I'm a server, so I know how dependent people are on tips.

Most people will say that 15% is proper. I generally tip 20%, sometimes more if the service is good.

Depends on the service, as low as 15%, on up to 30%+ if I never have to ask for my drink to be filled, and if they are very pleasant and bring things and anticipate my needs.

That's the norm here in Canada too. I can't decide if you're dumb or just kinda weird....

This. My biggest pet peeve is if I have to ask for my drink to be refilled. I also hate seeing host or waiters eating while serving you at the same time. (Seems to be common at Chinese restaurants). It's happened numerous times watching them get up from their table, take our order then go back to eating. Sorry to be your fucking burden lol.

But still, the low of the low is 15% meaning I hated everything about you. The top has no limits, I've tipped as much if not more than my bill for those who earned it.

                    18%-20%

I've had had to leave a 10 cent tip unfortunately....nightmare of a restaurant experience to say the least.

I don't really follow any percent and take out a calculator to be accurate.
I leave what feels right and more if they were awesome.

Usually a $3 minimum tip; if service was below par or I'm a regular to such restaurant, no tip

For a large restaurant ($10+), I will tip double the tax which is usually 20%.
$15 becomes $16.50 after tax; $20 total after tip and everything. If I was waited upon exceptionally well and/or I am feeling overly generous that day, I will tip more

I was kicked from a restaurant for not tipping "well". Which I thought was stupid cause there service sucked, but the food was good. Needless to say never going back.

                            I typical tip about 15%
