Does R3V know anything about Lionel Trains

Hey all, I recently inherited a collection of Lionel trains from my grandfather that dates back to the 50's and before. At least I'm told a few of the engines and tracks are that old, with a few of the box cars being newer.
He and I weren't close, didn't get along, and I really have no use for a train set. Any tips trying to determine if there is any value in any of the pieces would be great. I can post up pictures later.
I love that people ask stupid questions so I dont have.

I'll probably sound like an old man here but maybe you should save it in case you have kids some day. I have one that my dad and I collected when I was young. We would put it around the Christmas tree every year. If your really looking to sell it, look for model train shows or hobby shops in your area that can put you in touch with someone.

Thanks agent for the thread, I hadn't sen that thread before.
My wife and I have agreed that we really don't want kids of our own, which I know is controversial but is our decision. So I'm really trying to decide if its worth enough now to try and sell, or if I should wait till they are worth more. If one day they may be worth more.

I'm more of an HO guy but I've tinkered in the Lionel side of things before.

I remember about 10 years ago I had a book that listed the rare(r) models, including photos and at the time some values, however for the life of me I don't recall the name of it.

Not really helpful, but stiff like that does exist.

Model railroad shops usually buy used trains, and old Lionel stuff doesn't come cheap, so you might be surprised if you decide to sell. There are books out there that will tell you the value of a specific piece of Lionel rolling stock/locomotive; you might be able to check one out from your local library.

              Good luck.
