Seriously, I don't see any other networks lining up to show obscure niche motorsports and other road racing series. Speed is the best we've got, Nascar brings the money and ratings.

I haven't seen anyone acting really elitist! Poking fun at the NASCAR crowd is de riguer these days...

It's as simple as mass appeal. If F1 had spent years going from dirt to dollars, and could somehow now manage to create any interest in mainstream America, we might see more of it. Nothing succeeds like success.

It's like straight pool (14:1, not 8 ball) vs. 9-ball. 9-ball became popular because the games are generally short, and since more luck is involved, can deliver a win to an underdog more easily than straight pool. TV wants it simple and quick, and those big ovals make things simple and quick. Easy camera positions and nice big cars to put logos on keep the sponsors happy. Most of the viewers are more likely to drive a Chevy or Ford than a Ferrari, and make that association on NASCAR even though the stock cars are nothing near stock.

Now, poker? Well....

Seriously, the Nascar races are more fun to watch on tv than any of the other "niche" groups. Lets not forget f1's fuck up last summer with the American viewing public.

I agree that there is WAY too much damn oval racing on Speed. That's the only shit thats on 85% of the time you go to that channel. I have mad respect for Nascar drivers and anyone that thinks they are talentless guys that can only turn left are fucking morons. Watch the Montoya and Gordon switching places thing and get back to me on that topic.

Now I love F1 racing but most of the time the poll car leads 90% of the laps and ends up winning the race (atleast from all the races I've watched which is up there). There is hardly any passing in the front of the field, but the sheer speed of those cars keeps me interested. However, there are some races where theres a decent amount of passing and it's hella fun to watch.

itll never happen this has been talked about for years. speed tv started for people like us showing f1, euro touring car, and less popular racing events. once they got big enough they sold out. as long as nascar is popular with the rednecks and is a huuge money earner, they wont go back to the low advertising of speciality motor sports. they make more money showing nascar than pikes peak or paris-dakar or even le mans. thats the american market and it blows. I've come to grips and downgraded my cable package to not include speed i just dont miss it anymore. Every time I travel for work and the hotel has speed I check, and all I get is NASCAR TV, and talk shows about idiots driving in an oval. its mindnumbing. <vent> and a big f-u to every simpleton who hears I like cars, and assumes I like nascar. </vent>

This man speaks the honest truth. None of this will make a muticolored shit of difference.

I signed a petition years ago about having a DVD/VHS collection of ALL the episodes of "The State" put out and nothing happened. Thats when I was a youngster and I believed this country was still about democracy. HA!!! What a fool I was. :D dollars rule all, period.

And with all its many faults and hypocrisies, just know that this country is as good as it gets (along with Europe) and you can still live a more than decent life here if you work hard compared to ANY country in Central/South America where corruption rules all along with dollars, let alone anywhere else in the world. :) but were getting off-topic again.
