Since this thread has hit page 3, and thus I feel I'm not hijacking it (sorry Vtec!) I will pose my situation.
Two female dogs. Elsa (Lab, Shepherd mix), and Bella (Purebred GSD).
Bella is fixed. Elsa is not. Elsa just went though her first heat. During such, she began attacking Bella every time they were together. Every time. No matter what she's doing, Elsa will find Bella and go at it. To brake up the fight, you only need to pull Elsa away. Bella backs down and is totally on the defense.
So, Elsa is coming out of her heat, and we've been keeping them apart. I will take Elsa and put her on a leash and let her see Bella, but she still tries to go at it. Every time. Growling, barking, whining.
What do I do? I was hoping this aggressive behavior would go away, but it hasn't. They used to be best friends. Playing, laying together, sharing food, water, etc. Now you can't let Elsa loose in the same room as Bella.
"Wify" said if Elsa doesn't calm down we'll have to get rid of her, what with a baby on the way. Really want to avoid this as Elsa is my first dog since I was a kid and I am extremely attached. Also we're both really attached to Bella. She's such a good, loving dog and I really can't imagine the house without either one of them.
Cesar Millans of r3v, what say you?

My boxer used to eat money. Yup. Left a deposit slip on the table with $300 in it. He ruined all of it. Thankfully, I took it to the bank and they Replaced the money into my account.
But I've lost a few hundred. He's the reason I no longer carry cash. It's a bad habit and I need to get back to keeping some.Leave a comment:

seriously i don't know why he does it he will grab like napkins and tissues play with them for a bit and then tear them apart, its the dumbest thing but he does itLeave a comment:

Lol "eat tissues."
I was always stern but regardless he would go right back to thinking its play time. I would give him a nice pat on the hind but carefully (I've seen how this can easily injure a dogs hips) he would tuck his ears and tail and just freeze. I hated that. Now when I stare over him he doesn't cowar as much and he will listen submissively.Leave a comment:

I know! I remember my wife was having trouble getting the dog off the bed one day, the more she tried the more he acted like it was play time. She wanted me to "do my thing" and command him to get off, so I told her to take a position physically above him, say "Off" sternly while pointing where she wanted him to go, then simply stare. After a few moments he got up and left.
I'm glad you are seeing the change. The hard part is consistency!
Once he knows that you are the pack leader, he will also understand that the protection of the pack is your responsibility, and the aggression should become less and less of an issue.
^ This, entirely. Bump the thread in 2 weeks from now and let us know how it's going, and what behaviors you're seeing changed. I'm curious as to how quickly he will respond. Were you more soft with him and a pushover earlier? It's hard not to be sometimes with dogs :)Leave a comment:

No dude seriously lol. I'm shocked. He pounced and challenged me to a state off. I stared agressively and he backed down and rolled over. I then told him to get up and go to his cage. He went straight there without looking back crazy stuff.
We were laughing our ass off at "I am alpha"
Thank you so much guys. This gives me the confidence I needed to keep at it.
Very happy for you man! Just keep it up so he knows you're king of the mountain. Stand tall and talk with confidence and don't back down. You're in charge.Leave a comment:

^ some good advice.
i've helped watch/care for a british staffordshire. she has a ridiculous amount of energy and needed an outlet, so i took her for runs. at home, if she got too jumpy i just quit playing along, stood there, and stared.
one of the other dogs was a really whiny (but cute) lab that would just bark for no reason. when he did this, the most effective solution was to walk up to him, say NO, and just stare.
good luck with your dog, he is adorable and looks much like Frankie, the pit i've watched/fallen in love with.Leave a comment:
