    Anyone ever redo their shower?

I'm a DIYer, and not new to home repair/contruction.

I've always been told that showers are just one of those things you are better off contracting out. Mine has a crack in a few tiles, and the grout is old. I want to install a tile shower (12x12 or 10x10 tile).

It's not a big shower, my any means - but I've been told that all said in done it's usually not much more expensive and easier to get a contractor to do it.

    Thoughts?

I recently did some shower modding. Bought two dispensers for shower gel and shampoo.

No more stacking crap everywhere and accidental oversqueeze.

sounds like u're on the right path... just rip the whole thing and check the studs for water damage, after all look into installing a good exhaust fan to suck the moisture after u take showers (i like Panasonic ones, really quite) don't get home depot crap!
PM me if you got ?'s

the 12x12 tiles have better resale atm.

i would demo it yourself but have a contractor inspect, check structure and then install the new one. you can sue if it was done wrong, but if you do it wrong, you gotta eat it.

Tile is one of my trades for the last 13 years, you need any advice just shoot me a PM of your number and I will walk you though it.

You will need to remove the old tiles and make sure the wall is not rotten. If so replace with some bathroom sheetrock(blue or green).

You will need a tile saw, Dewalt makes a good one that is not bad on price.
Depending on your level of patience and skill at learning fast, you can use thinset mortar. Most use mastic to put the tiles up. Mix it till it is like toothpaste(same with grout). I personally use a 3/8 trowel to lay it, now make sure to have CLEAN DRY walls, if not you will have it just falling off in globs. I always go over it with course sand paper to make a surface for it to stick to.

Then start laying a row at a time, make sure to get even deep lines in the thinset to make suction to the tiles on the wall.

one of our bathrooms just got completely renovated. Wall was completely rotten and falling apart more and more daily, ceiling was this retarded spiky sponge paint type deal covered in mold. shit sucked. looks 100000x better now.
