Good paying summer jobs.

Decided against taking summer classes this year, so I am looking for a summer job of some sorts to make some money. I am fit and willing to work hard for long hours. I am saving towards another backpacking trip. This work I hope to find will cover it. I speak Spanish pretty well and have an entry level automotive positions.

Any ideas where to look? What have you done?

I vaguely looked at wild land fire fighting in Mt. Baker/Snoqualmie National Forest.

Find an internship position related to your career, chances are it will pay off much more than a manual labor summer job.

The money might not be as good, depending on field, but if you want to get hired after graduation, you'd be a fool not to.

Yeah, I highly recommend internships as well. They're a great thing to have on resumes, and depending on your major, they can actually pay pretty well.

There's a couple of different approaches.
My nephew financed a couple of years at school by working at an abattoir on the de-skin line. Horrible work that nobody wants, so always openings. But Gosh Ick.

Get a job in your field if you can get one, for sure, but sometimes it's good to give your head a break and do something different. I swamped semi-trailers with a guy taking a break from his Master's in biology.

When I was back-packing I met a guy way smarter and older than me who set out for home saying "I'm going back to school, I'm tired of taking crap jobs for crap money to finance traveling." I thought he was nuts, but 5 years later I hit 26 too, and his words came back to me.

Tree-planting (not tulips, geez) is what some people do in Canada. Hard physical work, good money after you know the job and I'm told weekends are awesome.
There might be trees that need planting in Tacoma?

Lifeguard/swim teacher. Great pay, you get to wear swim trunks all day and 90% of the people you work with are girls!

When I was in high school I did that and I got paid $12/hr and that was when Cali min wage was $7.50ish. Great job!

i work valet and love it. not a ton of money but its fun, active, and easy. find a place that allows tips and they will more than cover the difference between a $15/hour job
