    Solidworks question.

I figure some of you guys have to be familiar with this stuff. Im using 2004 and am designing a slide throttle. Im trying to figure how to make a mechanical gear with a matching gear track. Any help?

That's beyond my skill in solidworks, I worked for a company that used it, and i got to fool around when I wasn't working on stuff in AutoCad. I wish they used solidworks here, but we get to learn Catia instead...

You can always just draw the gear, then make it into a solid. Drawing gears is no easy task. I'm not sure if solid works has any built in designs or not. As I've only dealt with autocad and Inventor (so far, will have a solid works class next semester)

Just draw one tooth, draw the center point and array the one tooth around the center point to make a round gear. It's not that hard. Then just extrude it to the thickness you want. For a gear track, just draw one tooth and copy it over until it is long enough and exrude. This seems very easy to me. Are you asking something else that I am not understanding?

THats what ive been doing, but gear design is a little more complicated than that, especially when tight clearences are needed (as far as i know). I didnt know if there was a tool to design this stuff already available and i was overlooking it.

Ditch Solid works. Autodesk Inventor is alot better. Been using it over 6 years.
