Cheapest best way. --Go to the building material yard. Get a truck load of washed sand.
( I use my beat up pick up truck.) Buy Plastic Cement. Borrow or rent mixer. I would fill that space with a float mix of sand and Plastic Cement. Six to one. The plastic only costs a buck or so more a bag than Portland Cement and seals, sticks so much better.
If you were feeling real ambitious, you could float the whole floor. It could be beautiful.
Expensive expansion joints are big over kill on this job.
I guarantee you this will work just fine.

These "race deck" type of tile systems is way over my budget. And it's going to be too much work to get an 50 year old, worn down, oil impregnated concrete floor read for epoxy...

Unless someone can talk me out of it, I think I'm going to get a left over roll of household vinyl flooring and glue it down....;)
Even if you go with the vinyl you WILL need to prep the floor so it sticks and does not shift on you.

Easy - Go to the local pool supply and buy a 1 gallon Muriatic Acid container. Pour about 3 gallons of water in a 5 gallon bucket. Then add about 1/2 gallon of the Muriatic acid to the 3 gallons of water. Always add the acid to the water and NEVER add the water to the acid! Can chemically react and cause spontaneous upsplashes!

So then take a standard DECK brush and pour some of the Muriatic Acid soultion onto the concrete then before is can settle start agitating it with the brush by moving the solution back and forth while you scrub. Do this for the entire floor and then drag your garden hose into the garage and sprits all the solution out the front door. Try to keep it from heading into any shrubs or grass so they dont get killed.

Then let dry and go with whatever top coat or vinyl that you would like.

I did this before my Epoxy job and it really helped get things well prepped.

Dont cheap out if you care about the appearance.

It WILL crack. When and where may be the concerns.

GG-Just fill the ditch with hand mixed concrete, with stones. Clean. Caulk the crack with what-ever kind of caulk you have. Paint. Paint again later. It is just a floor of a garage, remember.
            grain of salt:p
