Anyone here know anything about a Pharm sales rep?

Looking into getting into a sales rep position as I like selling shit to ppl.

Most recently I sold Toyotas and Fords (different occaisions and dealerships). That went well but I hated the schedule (or lack thereof). I'm not a fan of having to work 7 days a week and not get any time away from work. That just sucks! Sure I like cars and shit, but most customers are all full of crap and all want a "great deal".

Anyone know if a job like that? Does anyone on the board do a job in sales like that?

Pharm sales rep is only one of the industries I was thinking of that was suggested to me after I finished HS many years ago. And to be totally honest, I kinda like building rapport with peeps, I'm totally a ppl. person.

    thanks in advance!

If you're trying to sell things I would refrain from using abbreviations like "ppl, peeps" etc. I would also not use these terms while speaking to clients: To be honest, to be completely honest... etc, It insinuates that you weren't being honest about anything you said up until that point.

You like cars right? Why not try your hand at being a rep for a motorsport company or something like that. Although easier said then done, it wouldn't hurt to send your resume to companies that interest you.

A friend of mine does it in Europe for a major medical equipment company. He is based out of London but handles all of Europe and the middle east. He makes big coin and travels non-stop. Great job for a single guy, not so much for a family man.(he is 39 and single)

          Are you an attractive female?

If not, it will be like 10x harder for you to break in to the industry.

            We have a winner.

Also agree with the cutting out any of the less than formal communication style. It isn't all "love and Other Drugs" it is an industry with very smart people many who will blow you off at the first sign of that type stuff.

I'm a doctor in a busy Ob/Gyn department of a major NYC hospital. We deal with drug reps all the time. If you want to be taken seriously, you need to know what you're talking about.

It's not about "selling shit to ppl." The doctor decides which medication his/her patient needs ... not you. No one is going to buy medication because of some hard-sell tactic you learned in an auto showroom.

You need to know your product(s) inside out. You need to be prepared to answer in-depth questions from people who know an awful lot more about the subject than you do. If you come across as someone who doesn't know his stuff, then you'll be ignored.

Lol. You may have a point there. Male or female, drug reps do seem to be very fit and good-looking.

yes, but if your rep has big tits and is a little flirty, it will be a lot harder for you to say no to her.

my wife is a rep. its all about making your quotas. your salary/bonus compensation is based on this. there is a lot of stress to make your goal at the end of each month. if you miss your goal too many times in a certain period, you will be sitting on your ass with no job.

being in commission sales has a lot to do with how well you can read people, how quickly you can get them to like you, and how much you are willing to bust your ass.

if you can say you are good at or willing to do all of those things, then this job is for you. if you are lazy, don't set goals well, or come across abrasively to others, you need to save yourself a lot of heartache and find something else to do.

if this particular job involves a lot of travel, you need to plan on being single while you do it or have a wife/girlfriend that is VERY secure. you also need to be the kind of person that makes your better half feel secure while you are gone. when you are home, you need to spend quality time with your woman so she knows there is a reason to stay in a relationship with you. i am out on the road 3 or 4 days a week. ask me how i know this.

also, it is generally a pretty lonely job. a lot of those companies pit you up against other salespeople you work with. your coworkers will stab you in the back and never give it a second thought. it can be really brutal

Yeah, I am. Explains why a family friend who was also a doctor recommended I take that job straight outta high school

                    I'll look further into this.

thanks for the help guys :)
