    My recent project: N64 Portable

decided to post it here also..(this is a copy-paste of my post from made-by-bacteria.com forums)

this is my first time building an n64 portable..

    Worklog

Finally completed it. Its not perfect, but its done! :)
The paint is a textured black/copper with a few coats of laquer.

i used the original controller joystick, dpad, start, a, b, and c buttons. I used a 7" lcd. Top cartridge load.

in this photo which is the top left of the handheld, you see the charge port with switch. when on the left the console is on battery power when on the right the battery is connected to the charge port. on the right of that is the L and Z buttons. I just used some long tact buttons. on the left of the charge port is the Video out/in. The switch above it is used to switch the screen to vid 2 and makes the vid/audio ports inputs so you can connect an external device like a dvd player or other game console.

And in this photo we have the volume control, audio input jack left, and headphone jack right. You can hook your ipod/mp3/whatever to the input jack to listen to music while u play :)

the red button on the front below the screen is the on/off button, and i put two vent holes. one on bottom right and top right. When you turn on the n64 a blue light lights up the top vent.

Anyways, this is my n64 portable, im sure i will enjoy playing it as will my cousins, nieces, and nephews. :)

EDIT: just got a video together, not the greatest video but its something atleast, also this was my first video ive made like this so i was a tad nervous.
    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVNib...ature=youtu.be

EDIT2: Did a battery test, got 4 hours 5 minutes of play time off full charge

Very cool. I've wanted to build one of these ever since someone gave me Ben Heck's book on hacking video game consoles.

Not only did you pick a great game but also the last great cartridge system. And this is coming from a Sega Genesis/Playstation guy. Lol fantastic work, lad.

Nice work! Really like how you included options like AV input that most gadget manufacturers wouldn't.

ya, i wanted a way to give the portable more than one function to add to its uses. And for the output it seemed like a good way to go as most people already own a/v component cables.

nope, its an original n64 motherboard inside along with original controller board, memory card, and expansion pak. i just trimmed/relocated stuff till i got its(the motherboard) size down to ~5"x~5.80". And i also relocated the cart slot using thin and short wire so it would be top load. I could have trimmed it smaller but i didnt really need it any smaller. of course u can see the modified heatsink/fan i took from an old 8600gt graphics card to use for cooling.

This is the coolest thing I have seen in a long time. Jet Force Gemini was that game though.
