I bought one of those Hav-a-hart live traps to trap a squirrel that had taken up residence in the eve of my house. I don't really care for killing. But this stupid waffle squirrel wore patches of hair off his face trying to get out of the cage, by the time I got him to the park about five miles away he was paralyzed. I opened the trap to let him out and he was stuck. I had to shake the cage to get him to fall out on the ground. I thought maybe he was playing dead, so I walked away and watched him for about ten minutes. He was breathing really shallow and only moving one leg. I think he paralyzed himself trying to get out of the cage. He was still there about two hours later when I came back with the shovel and cut his head off. I think that was more humane than just letting him lay there and die.
