Got 5 quotes from local cabinet shops and then asked to see some discontinued lines. Found some nice ones and settled on discontinued line that shop had available. Saved 55% and was cheaper than Lowes or home depot. Used old ones in basement and garage. Money saved used it on granite counters.

I redid my entire kitchen (upper and lower cabinets, doors, and hardware) in my townhouse using Ikea stuff for $2-3,000.

I saved money by designing, building and installing it myself.

They probably are lol. Granted I work at a factory where numbers are more important then quality. Not that I agree, that's what the company does :-|. But our cabinets are sold at Lowes and Home Depot. I forget the technical brand names, but they come from American Woodmark. They are made of plywood construction and particle board construction. I don't see how they sell any of the particle board cabinets, they are just cheap... But it's probably cheaper price to. The doors, drawer front and face frame are all solid wood. Some doors have a particle board center with veneer covering, just depends on the style. they come in Cherry, hickory, maple or oak.

Like I said with the plywood construction, they are far better, the hang strips, returns, toe kicks, shelves, backs are all plywood. The drawers are even solid wood with dovetail joints, where the particle ones are stapled together... The cabinets are assembled here in the USA. But with parts used around the world. USA, Germany, China, Vietnam, Belgium, are a few that I seen on the boxes when they came into the plant. Some of the quality issues I seen are finish peeling from the side of the doors (only on a few styles and colors), "Green or gray wood" you can see under the final finish of the door or drawer. Machine marks in one style of door that they have a spec on, but sticks out like a door ding on a car... But these are some issues that I've seen and corporate said they are ok and to pass them onto the customer.

Not to long ago we had a plant meeting with management saying how the company was doing. They said IKEA was #1 in the industry and we where #2. But then they said that IKEA was not in the same class of us so they don't know why it is rated like that.

Ikea is one of the popular suppliers for kitchen cabinets but i have heard many complaints in terms of durability. If you want to make it cheap then you may go for ready to assemble kitchen cabinets and install them your self. Even i did my kitchen installing RTA kitchen cabinets and overall it was much cheaper than the custom made cabinets. You can get them here, http://www.thertastore.com/RTA_Kitch...mble_s/223.htm
