thats bullshit. bust out the window by the garage and put in a door. that is 10x better than an egress window anyway. find yourself a good handyman on craigslist to install it for you. 300.00 for the door. probably 2-400 in labor. done.

I think a "pop out" window is actually a casement window. They are off the shelf items from higher end window companies such as Pella and Andersen. I have Andersen.

what is your window size? measure width, length, sill height above floor and the sill height above outside grade. you can probably find a standard egress window and lower the window sill.

Its in a CMU wall with brick fascia so I didn't want to deal with all the masonry work. So here is were I am at.

gutted the old window frame. I left the jam area as it was installed nice and square and get me a good platform to build off of.

Framed it in to cover the top and bottom slide channels.

Not quite finished in the picture but I bought a piece of 1/4' laminated safety glass, made a frame from solid oak, channeled it, then silicone the glass into place. I pre-drilled and counter sunk the holes and used 3" screws to hold it together. it's SOLID!

Here is how it sits now. I ordered some custom sash locks so I have to wait for them to dial in the final set of the window. then paint, seal and boom. done.

well, me too. i simply didn't have any handle on your abilities. by the way the original post was written, it sounds like you have 10 thumbs. that window you are building is looking good. i don't think i would have chosen oak if it were me. that variety will rot at about the same rate as treated pine or a little faster. especially in your area.

maybe its too late now, but see if you can get your hands on some cyprus or even better that plastic material that can be machined like wood.

cedar would last a long time but it is kind of soft and not stable enough for the job you are trying to do.

Yeah Menards only has so many options hahaha. I don't plan on being in this house for more than 3-4 more years. with some paint it should last a while. Plus there is a 2' eve above the window so it never gets hit with rain. The only moisture it deals with is our freakin humidity.

                    Little update.

The window is set. I have to go pickout handles, paint and install the weather stripping and deco trim and it's done. Total cost was about $250.

They wanted to knock out a bigger hole in the foundation and set a standard egress window instead of building me a custom window, so I built my own.
