similar principal as buying aftermarket control arms/bushings.
yeah, they work, yeah they're cheaper, yeah you'll have to replace them sooner. pay up front a little more for better quality and they'll last longer. you'll still have to replace them eventually but bottom line is they last longer.
The pants lasting longer is 2 fold though. They will last longer because they are raw, untreated and no wash treatment. They will also last longer because raw denim typically is 12 1/2 oz/yd and up vs the lower quality or mass market stuff out of big box stores is 12 oz/yd. It doesn't sound like much but it makes a difference.
i personally prefer american denim to stay in tune with "buying american."
but i differ from most in that i make my own pants. There are several companies that pride themselves in using American denim, just make sure they say denim from cone mills of North Carolina or white oak and that they're made in the US. There is a cone mills in china now and that is indeed the same Cone mills but all made on chinese soil. That fabric won't make it's way over to here to be sewn up it'll be fully sewn garments much like Fe4r's Arizona jeans from JCP earlier in this thread.
In regards to selvage, well, everyone can make them now. China, India, and indonesia have figured out a way to make selvage and maintain a cuttable width of over 57" vs the standard selvage stuff out of japan and the US at 29"-32" cuttable width.
Let's talk jeans

Most welcome man! I have been wearing them for a few days now. They feel really great! I love the slubby weave. And thanks! send me a message when you are ready to order a leather item.Hey.
Thanks for the tip! Just ordered (2). While the price went up on the selvedge a bit, I scored the rinsed for an even deeper discount...plus they had an additional 10% off (TICKTOCK) code so it all came out. The rinsed pair was only $14.39!
Take care and I need to get things in order to get some custom leather goods! Your work looks really on point.

I have been looking to get a pair of 484 or some Wallace and Barnes cone mill selvedge.i really like j crew pants. but i prefer some that have a little stretch to them. mainly cause i skateboard a bunch. so i will wear skateboard brands often: like krew, quicksilver. sometimes you can find levi 511 slim skinny in stretch but they are harder to find. my pants are usually slim
It is winter and I never really break a sweat in them working leather. When I workout I wear gym shorts. So these just get worn. I have washed them once due to a mosh pit(smelly kids). What makes things smell is bacteria. Freeze them and there is no smell. I just hang them out over night in 18 degrees.
Dick cheese smell is from guys that do not bathe. I washed mine once and that was only because of sweaty kids. It also helps I work leather in them all day. All my clothing smells like fresh, raw leather.
Who is crying about girl problems? I have zero issues getting women. And it is a fact women love fashion. Selvedge denim feels NOTHING like normal jeans. I have had these for 3 months and they are the softest pair of denim I have ever owned all my life. They are amazing. It is not over paying for something that is better made.
I wear my clothing for myself, I love it and that is all that matters. The same thing goes for my leather work. Sure you can go get a fake leather wallet or some china shit one for 1/3rd the price. Mine is better made and will outlast anything on the market.
Here is the fades:

Can you post a picture? I'm interested to see how they wear in.I have worn them everyday since I got them in August. Give or take 5 days for slacks. I have roughly over 125 days of wear into my Gustins.
They do not stink, I think it is due to being around leather all day(I smell like fresh leather). I also hang them outside at night to freeze(kills bacteria that you would get from wear).
I already have honeycombs on the back of my legs and heavy wear on my belt buckle area. Also sides of my knees from rubbing on the counter support while doing leather goods. Wallet in my front pocket and cell phone in my back right. Also traces from my daily carry, Benchmade knife and chapstick.
Granted I do not giving a flying fuck about 90 bucks. I beat the LIVIN HELL out of these. Stain from leather, crawling around on the construction site. You cannot baby denim, wear it in your daily life and it becomes part of your daily routine/life. Each pair tells what life you lead.
Do they last longer than regular washed jeans? I could get into this.Leave a comment:

Started out as raw selvedge Levis matchsticks. Ocean soak and maybe 2 washes in ~2 years of wear.
They're now being retired as my dailies in lieu of Gustins.
Those Arizonas are really intriguing though...Leave a comment:

How many wears is that in 3 months? I don't think I've gone more than 10-12 wears before washing.http://www.rawrdenim.com/dictionary/r/raw-denim/
A guide to warp, weft, and twill with simple visuals and guidelines to help you understand those terms within the context of denim.
Tomorrow I will be updating my Gustins with one wash in 3 months. They are gorgeous! Gustin makes some great jeans, just wished the cut was a bit less saggy.Leave a comment:
