There really is not a whole lot in Reno. :) It's a Casino town so everything focuses around the casinos. The Peppermill and Grand Sierra Resort are your best bets.
The National Automobile Museum is in Reno and a must see.
A river runs through downtown and has lots of trails to walk to see the area.
If you have the time, you have to take a day and drive to Tahoe.
Oh, and if you have a rental with full insurance, hit google maps for BLM land roads to go hoon on. I have a rally friend that has them all saved and can get you links. ;)
edit: Forgot food!
Being from Carolina, I tend to favor the Carolina BBQ pit. You can't go wrong with the various restaurants found in the casino's themselves.
I can't believe I forgot Virginia City. Neat town that has a real old western feel to it. On the back side of the town is highway 341 which is where the hill climbs are held.
You are headed there a couple months early. Come back in September and you get the Reno Air Races. This year is the 50th Anniversary. Its really pretty cool to see WW2 fighters that have been highly modified pushing 500 mph.
Here are a few shots from last year.
If you like things that go fast, this is an event worth going to at least once. This year is going to be (on paper at least) a shootout of epic proportions.
Virginia City is pretty cool. I haven't been up there in years, but I remember the roads up were entertaining.
I second the National Automobile Museum. Went there last year and was amazed at the collection. My favorites were the Phantom Corsair and the Porsche 935 race car
