I did that one too, since most of my family is in PDX, but in reality, there would be almost no military reason to nuke Portland. It would be useless in anything but a counter-population attack, which would only occur in the last minutes of life on earth. There are no useful targets there other than a largish population base and a civilian access port.

Wow, that is crazy. If anything were to happen in Charlotte (center city-ish) I'd pretty much be fine both at home and work. My GF on the other hand, wouldn't feel a thing...

I used the Tsar Bomba and some creative wind patterns to basically eliminate the entire Middle East.

                  Problem solved!

I've heard people refer to that(if we nuked the middle east) it would become a "Self-lighting, glass covered, parking lot"

(as in, it would glow at night, the sand would turn to glass, and nothing would be there)

This thread is missing this video - a must watch(the year is in the upper right - feel free to fast forward at times - it's 10 mins long)

A Time-Lapse Map of Every Nuclear Explosion Since 1945 (to about 2009)

The 2053 nuclear tests and explosions that took place between 1945 and 1998 are plotted visually and audibly on a world map.

As the video starts out detonations are few and far between. The first three detonations represent the Manhattan Project and the two bombs that ended World War II. After a few representative minutes the USSR and Britain enter the nuclear club and the testing really starts to heat up.

Even though the video does not differentiate between sub-critical "safety" tests and full detonations, you get a good idea of the fever of the nuclear arms race.

The time line does not extent to tests by North Korea (October 2006 and May 2009).
video credit: goes to Isao Hashimoto (https://www.ctbto.org/specials/1945-...eso-hashimoto/)
Also - two of my favorite childhood movies. That are worth a watch if you get sick of all the silly comic book movies.

manhattan project - "plot revolves around a gifted high school student who decides to construct a nuclear bomb for a national science fair"

A young man finds a back door into a military central computer in which reality is confused with game-playing, possibly starting World War III.

And after this post - I'm sure the NSA is listening. HI GUYS! (P.S. - I lost my flickr password - do you have it on file?!?!)

Well, if North Korea ever decides to bomb DC, I know I will be safe in my home with a bag of popcorn watching the mushroom cloud from Gaithersburg!

Middle East isn't my Concern when it comes to Nukes. Korea or china are more realistic.

Probably the best terrorist target in the US (if you REALLY wanted to cripple the US) sits about ~40 miles from my door step.
