you could always glue a pair of homeless guy's dirty underwear in a shadow box and hang it on the wall above your sofa. does wonders for the aroma in the room.

i think if you are on a budget, i would just do a google search for some type of art that you like.. print out a few photos, then go to the art store, buy some supplies and try your hand at painting a similiar copy?

some of those acrylics that were posted above with the paint splashes and drips can be reproduced quite easily. they are fun to make too.


rather than going to a furniture store to buy new furniture, my wife likes to go to antique furniture stores for our larger pieces. the quality is 100 times better and much cheaper than new chinese crap. 100 times more character too.

to save money, find a friend with a pickup truck, borrow it and buy your furniture used on craigslist. you can find some really cool stuff at a very reasonable price.
