    Audi 90.

Can nice with a drop and a body kit.

As someone mentioned. XR4Ti - interesting car from Ford of Europe. Landed here with out the cosworth. Instead it got the 2.3L turbo out of a mustang. They look cool with the rear wing.

Saab 900 SPG - a cute ugly duckling.

chevrolet beretta - interesting cause it had a 2.5L(?) 4-banger with duel overhead cams. A rare thing for American cars back in the day. But the motor wasn't anywhere as exciting as an s14. And I think it was heavy too.

    Also the early MX-6.

1990-ish Ford Escort GT (POS car - but it was kinda cool back-in-the-day)

Also - there was the peugeot 405. Or something. They raced along side e30's and 190's IIRC. They could be made to look hot too.

VW Golf. Jetta. They all have been modded to death.

So - there were plenty of hot cars in the late 80-90's.
Berretta GTU came with the Quad 4 engine from Oldsmobile and were rated at 190 hp/ These were spec engine in Indy light series. They blow up in the lemons series for reason.

I didn't spec any FWD cars because the handling is generally far different category.

I mentioned the Merkur, they were neat cars but unfortunately marketed here under the Lincoln badge which Lincoln in the 80's had nothing in the sport department except the rebadged Capri which was just a fox body mustang. They did sell a Aero Capri GS which had the big glass hatch.

Fact is most of the cars mentioned here have rotted away, some still lamenting, while some have a following. Used to be a time here in the Northeast you could not go 5 minutes without seeing a Saab 900 SPG or a Turbo. Now they are pretty much gone.

The FC3S Mazda RX-7 competes with the E30 very well. I get the same feeling from my E30 that I did from my FC's, happiness anytime I'm driving and especially in corners.

I owned an 1982 Malibu in H.S. I put a 327ci. motor in it (about 350hp) and stole the (policecar suspension off my brothers ex- cop car, it handled VERY well, was alot faster than an e30, and had a very E30ish look to it. I really do miss that car.

although I've never owned one, years ago I was in the VW scene, and saw personally some pretty powerful VR6'. Plus I still want one and curb weight is less than an E30.

This. I drove a friends 2.3L Foxbody recently, reminded me of a little different proportions, but very close to the driving experience of a beat up 200k mile 318iS.
