contacted by a staffing agency? update, real deal!

Got a call the other day by a staffing agency.

The gig is for a contract to direct hire opportunity with a solid pay and would require relocation.

Anyone ever put in a similar situation? I spoke to my wife and we are going to take it. Both the agency and their client check out.

Never been contacted before for a job without first applying. Seems strange to me! Any advice?

Edit: they found my resume on career builder, and it is a similar field to my current but would require training.

if your good at what you do and have a solid rep, other companies/head hunters know about you. I just switched companies, I get calls all the time from people wondering if I am busy or want to go work for them. My industry is a kinda small and semi close knit, so its kinda understandable.

Well this turned out to be more than I expected!

Landed the gig. Going to be working on locomotives, starting near the end of August. So long fluctuating pay, hello salary + benefits!

Exciting times. Currently looking for a room to rent in the NoVa area, anyone?

Good to hear. I've been hit up by a few of those but they weren't offering enough money for me to give them a second look but in those instances I always had jobs I have loved.
        Im now E30less.

Going to be servicing Amtrak passenger locomotives for the VRE line.

Pretty excited, just applied for a very nice condo only 3 miles away from the yard. Finger's crossed that we get it!

Everything is coming down to the wire, I start on the 19th and am scrambling to tie up loose ends at my current location.

VERY excited to get out of MD. First thing on my to do list is obtain my CCW permit once I get my address changed.

I have been working for a staffing agency for the past year. It's nice that I hve a job but being a temp for over a year kinda sucks, staffing agency gets their cut of my pay, your just a temp working for the staffing agency so no benifits(agency has insurance and stuff you could sign up for at a ok rate but not nealy as good as if I was an actual employee) and if you get let go, no unemployment either.

It was nice to be contacted from a online resume and get a job but I'm over being a temp, I'm handing in my 2 weeks notice this week and moving to work at a nice little BMW shop out in the country lol

Yea the delay on benefits does suck, but it is a foot in the door. Their official position on this is a contract to direct hire. As long as I don't suck, I'll be signed on after the 12 months is up. I was pretty cautious at the beginning but after meeting all involved, I decided to take the leap of faith. They know I am relocating myself and family for this position, so I am trusting them to not screw me in the long run.

That said, the pay will be higher than I have hit on flat rate in the last 6 years.

I have had some run in with head hunters like this. mostly mine were all direct hire opportunities that they just got ahold of me and would be getting a commission for getting me into the job. Never ended up in any of the positions but it can usually be legit.
