Dash Cams, who uses one?

Anyone on here use a dash cam. With all the terrible drivers out there I am looking to get one.

They seem to be big in Russia.

Nearly every Russian drives with a dash cam. There are endless videos of Russian dash cams on Youtube, some are pretty damn funny, some are quite gruesome. Not only do they all use them because the drivers are horrendous over there, but insurance fraud is HUUUGE. You thought Americans have a problem with suing each other, welcome to Mother Russia.

I have thought about getting one for a while. I've heard too many stories where people get fucked from insurance when something simple like a dash cam could have saved thousands and potentially lawsuits.

I have thought it over many times to get one or not, but I really don't want there to be video evidence of how I drive my car. I don't drive recklessly but sometimes it's just not all that safe either

1+ Would have saved my ass when I was passed by a kid and he hit the ebrake to slam into me. Road rage is not cool.

I could see how this could be a problem, but mounted right on your windshield it would never show the speed, you could turn the mic off, and it would never actually show who is driving the car. If you are diving like a complete asshole and get pulled over you could pull the SD card and smash it really fast, but if you are driving that bad then you probably diverse what you get.

Yep this is what they would be good for, some of them also have parking modes that will run when the car is parked or start filming if they sense an impact.

I have been browsing this site to find the right one to get. Looks like there are some decent ones for around $100.

Yep this could save you a lot of headache, I was t-boned once from a lady running a stop sign and rear ended once while waiting to pull into my driveway. Both of them admitted fault but I always worry about if someone hits me and then tries to make up some crazy story to make it look like I was at fault.

Never thought about getting one, but after watching that video... Holy crap... Video would just make it so easy to prove to the insurance. My mom was in an accident a couple months back. This giant truck just backed right on top of her car. The dude claimed she rear ended him. It went under investigation for nearly a month. Ridiculous.

I have been using the Hero in the car as well after a friend in Houston got saved by his from a "swerve and squat" where illegals pile into a car, swerve in front of you and slam on their brakes, then try to extort money.

Chick rolled out of the car from a fender bender and acted like she was dying until he told the cop he had a dash cam, Jesus couldn't have healed her faster.

I even setup my girlfriend with one for her scooter/car after a woman tried to run her over in a parking lot turning left. The lady was claiming she came out from an illegal turn despite the fact that Jennifer was in a line of cars down the main drive. Thankfully there was a camera in the store and the manager witnessed and helped. Insurance started to play the game until she said, "there is video" and the conversation ended and she had a check in a week.

The GoPro can be setup to to 5 minute splits if you are just using it for a dash cam. Then just blow away the video that isn't relevant.
