So yea cops can do whatever they want, that's why we have courts because cops arnt responsible for knowing the law that's a whole separate job that requires a lot more knowledge.
While that is true, even if the cop gave a ticket for such an offense without witnessing it himself, the judge will likely throw it out due to the fact that there was no report on it. That cop was merely being a douche and didn't know his laws. So yes, you could get ticketed which is a hassle, but chances are, you won't have to fight much to get it dismissed.

I agree, it seems that people would rather sacrifice their own freedoms for a false sense of safety and security wrapped up in a nice politically correct package. Every time I could use legal help, it is never there. However, it always seems to work against me, no matter how innocent I may be.

I agree wholeheartedly, why you may ask? Well I currently have a pending traffic violation which I put a pre-payment deposit for to reschedule the court date and they said I am guilty, which in turn put a conviction on my record. EVEN though I have yet to go to court which is in september.

Yup that's how it really works If you have pending charges it's as good as a conviction in most cases. Best to just not get cought, why anybody would answer the door for police is beyond me, you think they are gonna give you some prize or something lol I avoid cops whenever possible and it seems to work out fine lol

I got a knock on my door at midnight last night, while trying to have a quiet evening with the fiance, from the local friendly police department. Apparently, a church down the street called them, stating that they had followed my car to my house and gave the address...the offense? Doing donuts in their parking lot.

Sounds funny, could be plausible, except it isn't. I told the officer this, and he responded with, "It's your word against a church's."

Now I live in the heart of the Bible Belt South and specifically in a very corrupt county that currently has major organizations fighting for the resignation of much of our force due to excessive brutality and the like...

Likely that knock on my door will be the end of it; however, if not, then does anyone know what avenues I have of defense, especially since they obviously have no proof?
I am not attorney and nothing I say here should be construed as legal advice. I would enocurage you to seek legal advice from an attorney who is duly licensed in your state.

                          1. The cops said hi and left. They most likely consider the situtation dealt with.

                          2. Do donuts somewhere else. They have noticed you now so if there is some damage on the premises, they will likely start any inestigation with you. This is obviously not conclusive, but you don't want to be the first suspect.

                          3. Good call on reaching out to the church. That is the kind of thing that almost never hurts. Just remember not to admit anything, dumb as that sounds.

                          4. You never know when there is a video camera hiding somewhere. Be careful.

                          5. Depending on local traffic laws, the charges that can stem from donuts are trespassing and reckless driving. Neither is a big deal unless damage occurs or someone is injured.
