    Paleo Diet

For those of you who don't know, the Paleolithic Diet (most commonly labeled the Paleo Diet) consist of a lifestyle mimicking the eating patterns of mankind's earliest ancestors. This not only would exclude any types of processed foods and sugars aswell (any type of granulated sugar, processed sugar, candy, soda) but all types of agricultural product (grains, cereals, corn, wheat, bread, oats, beans, any and all dairy products). If It came from a field; it's no good; that includes beer (:(!!!). The more the food resembles the original state of what it came from, the better.

Pretty much a list of what you can have:
    -Meat
    -Fish
    -Eggs
    -Fruits
-Vegetables (The deeper the color, the better it is)
-Nuts (no legumes, so no peanuts; almonds and walnuts are perfect)

However, although the guidelines seem strict, it's still easy to follow. Essentially, you are trying to mimic the nomadicy of early ancestors as well, meaning you eat whenever you want, however much you want, until you're full and you don't even think about eating until you have hunger pains again.

If it came from a plastic wrapper, box, or bottle; it's probably gonna kill you.

So.. Anyone on it? I'm thinking of starting it soon, since it kinda seems like the totally-manly opposite of the vegan diet. People have been known to totally reverse the early stages of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. My family gas a risk of all 3, so why not?

    Anyone on it?

Two of my cousins went on it and they swear by it. Have been doing it for a couple years now and say they feel amazing. They also work out every day..

If you have the self control then why not try it out?

Also know as a Keto Diet as it plays on ketosis state and is a quick way to lose body fat. I do this for about a week out of the month. It really helps you frown upon fast foods and all other processed shit that is bad for you.
The more fish and the least chicken, the better.

You'll also want to stay away from fruits that are packed with sugar.

I've done Paleo and Keto, both work but I get tired of them. Forgive me for being human but I like a little junk in my diet every now and then. My wife and I have been doing the Body By Visalus and we love it. Tastes awesome, replaces 2 meals with something filling and nutritious. On top of that I lift a lot and the protein complex in it is crazy, I'm hardly ever sore anymore!

Paleo works, I'm just not one to restrict my diet that much.....and I can't say no to a good beer.

The little woman tired it, and she was a bitch to deal with while on it, thanks the lack of carbs. She got major headaches and had no energy along with a major additude to go with it all. She made it 6 weeks and 4 days before giving into a cheese burger and fries

I was on it for about 4 months. The whole reason I had to get on in the first place was to stay lightweight for rowing. it sucked. Never again.

I'd think organic chicken is better than wild fish which typically has trace amounts of heavy metals, or something like Tilapia which is filled with Omega6 fatty acids.

Thats the ketosis, some people respond really bad to it. My wife was the same way. she did a modified version called carb backloading before our wedding, we'd go 10 days without carbs, then eat them like crazy at one meal. she lost a TON of weight but was totally miserable, lethargic and tired the ten days we were carb free.

My gf tried the paleo diet, lasted maybe 3 days. I don't really see the point though, avoiding processed foods will do wonders on its own, just be reasonable about what else you eat.

I like the core ideas of Paleo and Keto, it's good to adopt healthy diet principles for your own lifestyle, to follow something to a T can be rather boring/rough.

While I've read your posts and I know you're healthy and get exercise be careful with the Visalus stuff. Look into the ingredients list carefully, I hope their diet mixes aren't mostly made up of soy anymore as they once were:

Carbs and sugars do that, it's like caffeine you can't just quit cold turkey, stepping down slowly IMO is the best method. Our bodies get used to the diet. I was caffeine free for about 6 months, the first few times I tried were terrible with migraines. Same thing with the first time I did a gluten free / processed food / etc cleanse.

I agree, educate yourself and make healthy choices, eating healthy requires more effort for most, but honestly it's the best move you can make. You can cheat sure, but realistically the less processed foods and more exercise you get, the better you will feel and you'll obviously be more healthy.

That is true however it is expensive and somewhat hard to find all natural, organic, corn free, free range chickens. The cost and nutrients alone will pull you towards the fishes.

Exactly. Especially if you're more prone to hypoglycemia. These diets can cause severe if not permenant damage to major organs. If you've grown up on carbs and fatty acids then I would suggest seeking actual medical advice, having a physical and blood test before trying to drastically change your diet.

Thanks for the concern man, its funny you bring that up because I avoided it like the plague for a LONG time because there was soy in it (man boobies....mine are getting smaller). That's a good article you posted to, asked a lot of good questions. My wife and I keep a well balanced diet, and unlike many Americans we use it to supplement out diet not just lose weight....(my wife is hot if I say so myself and doesn't need to lose it). But my buddy thats a health nut kept on me and I was like FINE, I'll try it. been on it for 2 months and love it. I powerlifted in the past and still do a lot of the extremely heavy lifting now. I can now function like a normal person after leg and back day...

So is Visalus the holy grail of nutrition, probably not, is it a million times better then what the average american eats for say breakfast....or in many cases doesn't eat, hell yes it is.

Also....pyramid scheme, no. I thought so at first, but if you just want to use the product you can stop there, you are not required to promote it. But we love it so much we tell everyone about it! My wife and I are starting a 90 day challenge today to drop 10 lbs. each and lift a combine total of 1 million pounds in the gym.

Sorry for the thread jack OP

Eating energy dense foods because you have to work hard to hunt and gather enough of that food to survive is one thing, eating as much energy dense food whenever you want until you're full then sitting on a couch until you're hungry again is another thing. Our earliest ancestors' bodies were never in a continuous state of excess energy.

I'm not saying the diet is a good or bad thing, but it needs to be interpreted and practised in an appropriate manor for it to be effective.

I never tried paleo, but I switched to a plant-based diet and I like it. I can't afford organic meat anyway and I really don't miss it. Sometimes I do get sugar cravings but I eat a banana and I'm good.
