THIS could bring me back to smart phones.

I gave up on em after having an Iphone 4. It was nice, but my tab was better. So I just bought a flip phone and have been happy since.

That said, this would bring me back.

That's a really awesome idea! And when you're bored in class, you can play around with it like it's Legos and see how many arrangements you can come up with.

      The compatibility nightmares...

^ No different than today's PC. I build my own and somehow manage to get a above average operating machine.

That is super awesome!!! Although as lambo mentioned, there is no way it will be that easy to go from one cpu to another cpu just like that. There will be compatibility issues.

The engineering behind that is nearly impossible, electronic do not work like that.

I really like that. A lot.

That's literally impossible to make, that's not how electronics work.

Funny you guys say that's not how electronics work.

Yet modern automobiles use a 2 wire system for all the modules to communicate with each other...

the only way it will work is having the 'base' contain the cpu, gpu and ram. connections off that are fine but having a 16 pin cpu? not going to be fast enough

It's a good idea in theory but the cost and effort to make that work seamlessly and then mass produce it would be astronomical. I don't see it happening any time soon.

This phone would have to be the size of a VCR to work. It's a fun concept, but it's not going to be productized with current technology. Smartphones like the iPhone are only a handful of multi-purpose processors on a single tiny board, and what you see is still as small as they can make it.

These people are great at making a good concept video. It's very well done. But they don't have any idea how modern electronic devices are engineered.

But, innovation is driven by inspiration, so I'm glad they're presenting the concept. I just wish they didn't act like they can actually make this device.

Right, anyone who has held a PCB should understand this.

perhaps they're planning on having multiple leads per pin?

Then they would need special chips made, that would be expensive. Quite expensive. Not that they wouldn't already.
