you can never beat a price like that. i say go for it. take a trailer with you, load it up and drive it home. the 185 model is only 18hp so it is really small. as long as the jobs you have for it are small, it will be fine.

oh, since the tractor is that size, the bush hog is probably a 4 footer. if he has other implements that he is willing to part with, grab them too.

just try not to actuate the steering until you have the chance to take it apart, clean it up and put new seals/lube in it.

even as small as this tractor is, it is still a good deal. i would drive up and get it from where i live in houston if this deal were available to me.

      Thanks for the advice !

I think most of the work i would do with it would be considered small.

When you say actuate the steering i assume you mean turn the steering wheel? I was thinking i would need to remove the steering box before i move it, is it safe to just not turn it instead?

Are front buckets available for this model? what are they worth used if so?

He has a scrape and a rototiller as well, the tractor was mostly used to rototill his fields for planting.

I will likely have no use for a tractor ever in my life, but I always thought it would be awesome to own one of these.

if you can pull your trailer up behind it and load it up without turning the wheel, that would be the best thing. just try to turn the wheel as little as possible.

if your grand dad is willing to give you the implements with the tractor, that would be awesome. they are really valuable. the bush hog in the pic is probably worth 3-400 bucks. a back blade is worth less than 200. a box blade may be worth 300 or so. the rototiller could be really valuable. depending on what it is, it could be worth from 300-1000 bucks. even if he wants you to pay something for this equipment, it would be well worth doing so.

yes you can find loaders. the best bet would be to get a used factory one made for this model. you can buy a new one for less than 2k for this size tractor. since everything is probably free, it would be well worth your while to do so.

i would start by doing a google search for "kubota L185 craigslist" another idea would be to get one of those craigslist search engines for 20 bucks and search that way. ebay may also be a good resource.
