    foraging

    anybody go foraging?
    we did for chanterelle mushrooms this last saturday and about three weeks ago. pretty fun.
    and did anyone know that carrots are naturally red, not orange? carrots foraged from our garden

    We used to go find morels in the woods by the house.

    My GFs parents drive all over for morels too. Went to Michigan last year for some special morel hunting thing, lol.

      Carrots are naturally orange, there are less common varieties in different colours (such as red or white).

                Wow, nice looking chanties. They are one my favorite mushrooms.
                Last year was terrible for chanterelles where I live but it was great year for king boletes. This year has been good so far, found lots of morels and few spring kings in Sierras in the spring. Now I am just waiting for the raining season.
                It is fun foraging, get to meet interesting people who are very informative. One of best part is the drive through the mountain roads in my e30.

                  I've gone foraging for berries but, that's about it. I've got some real earthy friends that are all about it. Some of their friends who I rarely see since they live out in the sticks live strictly off foraging, they're uhh... interesting people.

                    over your backyard fence and into your neighbor's garden?

                    here in texas we have blackberries out the ying yang. when i lived in michigan, we used to collect morrels, puff balls(don't particularly like this mushroom) wild raspberries, black berries, wild onion, wild garlic, chickory, wild blue berries, a few other mushrooms that i don't know the name of, apples, pears......
