    Craftsman Torque Wrench - Reconditioning

So I bought one of these about 10 years ago, used it once and then put it away. It was before I knew any better about how to store them and properly take care of them. I left it cranked up in the box so I fear the springs might be jacked up. I have never trusted it since I found out that you were supposed to back off the tension prior to putting it away.

That said, I will definitely be needing to use it again but I am not sure who I should be taking it to for restoration/rebuilding. Has anyone had one rebuilt/restored? Is the cost worth it or should I just spend the money on a new one?

    Thanks for helping the noob.

Get a CDI or a Precision torque wrench instead. Don't waste any money on that POS. As a bonus, Precision split beam wrenches don't need to be zeroed.

Precision used to be Snap On's supplier. I believe that CDI is today. We have both kinds.

Everything he said^ I got a Craftsman a long time ago. It is on a last leg also. Only reason I get by is I borrow my Uncle's trq wrench.

      Invest in the precision.

You can check if yours is accurate pretty easily if you have a bench vice. See here:

I have access to one at least. That is freaking brilliant though! Thanks NRD.

Thanks for the great help from everyone. I will look into those other units too just to see what my options are.

Fucking brilliant. Adjustment is super fast. It doesn't have to be zeroed. The one knock is that the super quick adjustment means that you don't really have 1lbs. increments, but that shouldn't matter on a big wrench.
